The final chapter in learning to sew with stretch🩷 This is the pattern that started this whole journey and made me want to learn about stretch. A girl just wants comfort and cuteness while lounging 👌🏻 Sometimes when you have no idea what you’re doing you pick the wrong things and you learn. I just picked a stretch fabric and didn’t think much of it. I think I ended up picking something too soft and flowy. The pockets can’t hold any weight without fully stretching out and the arm binding is too soft and stretchy so doesn’t hold its place as well as it’s meant too. Once again my machine loved this fabric and so many times it ate my fabric and this time put holes in it. I serged most of the holes away so you’d never know but it did get frustrating at times. This pattern says “easy to sew” and this may be the case but for me it was on an intermediate level for the simple fact that I don’t work with stretch. For someone who understands the properties and settings on there machine and works with stretch all the time this would be a simple sew. I can see that. But for me who knows nothing and it’s all guess work it was a nice challenge. This is a great reminder for people trying new things out that something labeled “easy” can mean different things and depending on what you are use to sometimes the pattern is just easy and sometimes it challenges you. Most easy to sew patterns have buttons and not zips but I find doing a zip easier than buttons. It’s all about preference, experience and what you are used to doing. I’m so glad I worked on a few very basic beginner stretch sews to find the ropes first before jumping into this pattern. It helped build confidence and knowledge and it made this sew that little bit less daunting. I would 100% make this pattern again but perhaps take the time in feeling different stretch fabrics to find the one I think would be a great fit. This #s9929 one was a surprise 😳, a good one. There was little at stake trying something different as the fabric cost $10 on clearance. I love it so much I rushed back for more fabric to make a skirt. Pattern: #simplicity9929 is a @mimigstyle knit top and pants pattern. ✨I wasn’t sure about the cropped look but it’s the perfect length to wear with a skirt. I love a cowl neck and the arm bands are a nice design feature. Also a draw card was not having to hem a knit fabric. I did increase the waistband length and I am glad I did because I had to stretch it to its maximum to fit the bodice. ✨ I reckon I could make this in a woven minus the hem band. Fabric: cotton elastane knit from @spotlightstores Styled with my failed Norman jumpsuit from Style Arc cut down to pants. Where do I begin??? The SEWCRET KRISMAS Challenge kicked off live and hilarious! Lol! Ok, I've worn this twice and washed it once between, so I can finally review this Simplicity 9929 top. There are no finished garment measurements for the top at all. Not on the tissue, the envelope, or in the instructions as the envelope back leads customers to believe. The company says they no longer provide finished garment measurements when design ease and drape make it difficult to accurately assess. I opted to make a 1X and I think I'd do the same again if I make it in a similar fabric. I'd just add an extra inch to the bodice front and back because it rides up to my natural waist quickly. Some added length would minimize that. Instructions have you cut the back neck binding and the front on the bias. I wouldn't do that unless you're using an exceptional stable knit. For the neckband it was just super bulky even after aggressively trimming it. Overall, this is quick to make and one of Simplicity's more inclusive patterns. Top - @simplicity_creative_group #s9929 in a cream linen knit - I absolutely adore it! The plan is to make another, possibly size down for a better fit. I have been enjoying revising my makes to get more use out of them. The skirt was one of my revisions and I am so pleased with how it turned out. It was a dress that I made awhile back,#V1693, and never wore. The fabric is a lovely cotton lawn and too nice to hang unused in a closet. #memademay2024 We climbed up and down 1,260 steps at the Wat Tham Suea, Tiger Cave Buddhist Temple, in Krabi. 🎽+ 👖REVIEW: Final knit make of the #PlanPrepExecuteReview challenge and I learned that I will never turn back from inset pockets in a knit garment, (rather than side seam pockets). Super happy with my new “lounge set” Fabric is Minerva Core Range light French Terry in Lavender that I was gifted in return for a post. it’s really great quality and I love the color on me, it feels good on my skin and was a pleasure to stitch up - I have written at length about it on Minerva.com (link in bio). I was disappointed in the pattern, Simplicity 9929 #9929 for a number of reasons. The projector files were HORRIBLE, but I managed to work through that. Instructions are minimal as always with big pattern companies (definitely expect more after using Indi patterns for so long), but MimiG has a Youtube sew along that was really helpful. Finding the right size was my biggest issue, and I had to make a lot of adjustments. Measurements were only given for the bust, waist and hips, but ease was only for the pants. I should have made M in both, but I know that I have a small frame and small breasts and so for the top, I sized down to XS and it is perfect, however, I had to increase the waistband by 4” (3 kids later I’m not as teeny as I used to be) The finish on the back neckline is really neat, as is the v-tip on the armscye. Nice pattern drafting there. Made a M for the pants against my better judgment. The gusset is a nice feature, but it made the leg openings really wide on my puny legs. I removed the gusset and at that point it was the right amount of ease, but the crotch point is not far forward enough. Not too noticeable to the rest of the world though. I learned a new technique for sewing elastic casing from the MimiG sew along and I will definitely be using it again. It's been so long since I've sewn and let myself enjoy this hobby. The hem on these pants have been waiting for me to finish them for months. It's imperfect but it's done and I'm proud of myself. That vicious anxiety and depression cycle can really get in the way of joy so again, I'm so proud of myself. A few close ups of the details on this piece. 1. The wonky hem won't be a big deal when it's worn so I'm not sweating it 2. I'm a fan of the top stitching even/especially without contrast thread. 3.
