These pants were a major pain but they're here now, just in time for boot season. These are #v1966, a reprint originally from 1975. The good: I didn't need to add any length to the legs, and the weird little front pockets are cute. Not so good: confusing pattern lines and instructions. I'm not sure if I cut on the wrong lines (probably!), but when I attached the waistband it was way too small. Like, impossible to ease in, I did it but it was all puckered and then it was way too tight. After a couple months in the naughty drawer I recut the waistband with an extra inch and replaced it...but where I'd already trimmed the innards i had to get creative and ended up with a lot of messy reinforcement stitching. Shrug. Fabric is an awesome cotton/tencel pique that was on serious sale from Fabric Mart. The texture is really nice and I still have a couple yards left. I made the shirt, too. It's a #fibremoodjames I made for my husband. He found the neckline too wide (and it was, very odd for a men's pattern) so I added a neckband but he still felt too exposed so it's mine now.

This fabulous soft and drapey printed-in-Japan cotton/rayon/wool Viyella Tapestry fabric is from @fabricationsott My mods include a pointy 1970s collar adapted from #V1966 and a concealed button closure a la Donna Karan’s 2002 shirt in #V2813, the width dimensions of which matched the Jenna front piece exactly, and a rounded corner breast pocket. Also, due to obsessive and anal retentive pattern matching, I didn’t have enough fabric for the inner yoke, so used some coordinating grey cotton/linen voile from my stash. I’ve gone from slow sewing to very slow sewing. Finally finished my summer safari shirt / jacket. Made it in an army beige cotton drill with metallic studs for openings, pocket fastening and epaulets. Working with light coloured plain fabric means you can see every single stitch so I tried to take my time especially with the top stitching. I’m reasonably pleased with it but a few little issues. 54 Years and still young at heart! . Collecting and opening these now ancient red time capsules to find they are still wonderful wines to drink is something special I get to do in the course of business. . In this case a rare Dry Red (Hermitage) Shiraz from McLaren Vale from vintage 1966 is one of life's joys I get. . This particular wine was produced and bottled by the Southern Vales Co-operative who provided the winemaking beginnings for the likes of Simon Hackett, Grant Burge, Murray Marchant (who was instrumental in the creation of Grange in 1951 along side Max Schubert) - in fact Max didn't want Murray to leave Penfolds as he was the chemistry behind this great wine. . Colour is mahogany brown, a halo of red showing the wine still has life! . Aromas after settling were interesting - after about 10 minutes of decanting I decided to decant again just to wake it up! Then gradually macerated raisins, port and chocolate. . Taste was to begin was as you'd expect with a wine of 54 Years.. A bit confronting with mainly oakiness at the fore, but as time went it entered a new realm and said "Hey.. I'm not dead yet!!" from being an earthy non event, after about another 45 minutes and another decant showed some dark cherry and blackberry fruits. Tannins were soft but still present. Towards the end there were tobacco and chocolate flavours and although did not finish with any length, was still drinkable. . Wow! What can we say about this wine to do it justice. A very special wine for my sister and I and so wonderful to share it with our family and my godfather Nick Pappazahariakis who has looked after it and others for 19 years. It was our father Ron’s wine, purchased on release for $3.50 a bottle. He cleaned The Feathers Hotel Bottle Shop out! It had dark chocolate notes and opened up beautifully displaying leather hints and a finish that went on forever. A very special and emotional moment for us.
