It’s that time again—my Weekly WIPs post—a weekly post where I’m sharing what I’ve been working on for the past week in my grid 💛 1. Right now I’m out of town in Milwaukee for Andrew’s yearly miniature painting contests at Adepticon, so I brought lots of knitting WIPs with me while I hang with Crowley and enjoy the con! This is a single skein of @catsandwichfibers to knit some vanilla socks or a textured sock! Any textured sock patterns I should check out?? Gimme your recs! 2. #IrvingSocks (my pattern) in progress! I’ve been knitting these forever lol. This is my favorite of all the patterns I designed. @intothewhirled sock yarn and a contrasting red toe! 3. An #OlmstedHat knit in the most perfect red-orange from @woolberryfiberco. This is one of my all-time favorite colors!! This is also my pattern- the most perfect beanie. I reduced stitch count for a tighter fit. 4–6. I finished cutting out my @simplicity_creative_group #s3038 jackets! I’m making Andrew and I matching black suede jackets. 🖤 7. I’ve not started sewing #s3038 yet, but I’ve started some prep work! I’ve been testing out presser feet, stitch length, iron settings, etc. I’ll be all ready to go once I’m back home! 8–9. I revealed the plans for the collar on my jacket—I want to try weaving smooth grain leather a la Bottega Veneta! I think it will be so fun to make. Also getting inspired by a Khaite jacket for leather accents! 10. I’ve been working on my first blog post for @berninausa. I’m really excited about it. It’s a post about how I’m able to make time to sew as a new mom. Tbh, I got comments/questions asking how I was able to be so productive before parenthood, so it’s a post I’m excited to write about. It’s not live yet, but I’ll def let you know when it is! 11–12. A rare sighting on my IG, so enjoy these pics of my baby who is now smiling back at us!!! Melts my heart. It’s so nice to have some visible feedback and interaction 🥰🥹

Canvasjacke für den Sohn zum Geburtstag. Schnitt ist #s3038 von Designer @norrisdantaford für @simplicity_creative_group in XL und damit selbst für meinen 1,94m großen Burschen noch schön oversized - wie gerade alles, was er derzeit trägt. Den gewachsten Canvas habe ich bei @metermeterdk bestellt - darkbrown stand da - nunja, trifft es nicht wirklich aber ich fand auch den Farbton nicht schlecht. Das gestreifte Baumwollfutter habe ich gleich dazugeordert. Der Waxed-Canvas kam gefaltet und obwohl ich die einzelnen Schnittteile vor dem Nähen händisch geknautscht und geknittert habe - Danke Mel @500_days_of_sewing für den Tipp - ist der "Transport-Knick" im Vorderteil noch deutlich zu sehen. Ich hoffe, das verschwindet beim Tragen. Beim Schnitt gibt es eine gute englische Beschreibung und ein noch besseres Video. Ich habe die Jacke um 7cm verlängert, zwei Innentaschen im Futter ergänzt und einen RV-Beleg hinzugefügt. Der hat mich dann fast zum Verzweifeln und meine Brother an ihre Grenzen gebracht. 6 Lagen Canvas plus Reißverschluss dazwischen ordentlich absteppen - no way! Die Maschine ließ Stiche aus, egal was ich machte und einstellte! Da musste meine Veritas von 1972 ran. Die kann nix außer Zickzack- und Gradstich. Der aber war perfekt. Auf das alte "Eisenschwein" ist Verlass! Mein Sohn ist happy mit der Jacke und musste sie vor seiner Schwester in Sicherheit bringen. This and that in the sewing room 💛🪡 I don’t post much to my grid these days (I’m more of an IG stories gal), but I love using Instagram as a way to track progress on my projects like a journal of my making. So I was inspired by @thenewyorkyear to start a #WIPwednesday series. Less perfection, more progress, more…in the moment! It’s no longer Wednesday, but the days on maternity leave are kind of a blur, so maybe next week will be on the right day? Who cares. No promises 😂 WIP WEDNESDAY PROJECT UPDATE: 1. Today I’m cutting out #m8142. I’m using a black jersey knit and I’m modifying view C into a top. McCall’s patterns are always too short for me in the shoulders, so I’m adding an inch to front and back, and grading from a 10 at bust to a 12 in the waist. 2. The black suede swatches arrived for my upcoming jacket project. I’m using #s3038 (more detail in a previous post). I loved the swatch from @fabricwholesaledirect, and ordered the full qty needed for that project. That will be next on my sewing table as soon as it arrives. Love jacket sewing! Can’t wait to get started on this. Linings pictured in the background and are from @moodfabrics. 3. This week I sewed up a toile of #m8382. It’s a low-cut dress design, so I wanted to make sure I had good fit on that bodice. As usual, I’ve added length to the shoulders and graded between sizes at bust and waist. I’ve pinned out the excess at the neckline, so my next steps are to adjust my pattern pieces. I might make one more muslin just to check before I cut into fabric. Not sure what I’m going to use yet! 4. I finished a jacket for Crowley this week! 🥹 I wanted to make us all matching jackets, but suede doesn’t seem like the best choice for a baby. 😅 (more details in previous post) 5. / 6. As always, I’ve got my eye on future makes. Here are a few that have my attention. Knits patterns in pic 5, wovens in pic 6. 7. Always lots of kitty “helping” along the way.

Back with this week’s #WeeklyWIPs post—a weekly series where I share what I’ve worked on in the past week. I love that so many of you are adopting this!! Please tag me if you do—I LOVE to see what you’re up to! This week was a big one. I honestly feel annoyed burying so much of this into a single post, but it does help to just get out of my head and just POST.😆 1. I finished my @simplicity_creative_group #s3038 jacket designed by @norrisdantaford. It’s perfection. Only a sneak peak because I NEED to take proper photos to do this one justice. 2. I learned how to catch stitch by hand! My first time doing it, and I love the flexibility it gives to the hem. 3. This week I’ve started putting together the tutorial for the INCREDIBLY foolproof and beautiful single-welt pocket method I used in my jacket. I re-did a sample so I could take better photos, and at first I was nervous. What if it didn’t turn out as great? Shouldn’t have worried because once again…PERFECTION. 🤩 4. I finished my third pair of @bygraciesteel #foxieboxies workout shorts using nylon taslan from @moodfabrics. Love them! 5. On a quest to understand optimal bottoms drafting for my body, I took apart my favorite RTW elastic waist shorts to analyze crotch and rise drafting compared to the Foxies. We learned SO much together on that. You guys really enjoyed that analysis. It’s saved to a highlight if you want to see. 6. & 7. Finally, I “finished” (needs hems lol) matching polos for Crowley and I!!! 🥰 For mine, I used @norrisdantaford’s @knowmepatterns #ME2035, and for Crowley’s I used @mccallpatterncompany #M8568. For both I used a Mara Hoffman french terry deadstock from @moodfabrics with a lightweight white rib knit from @lyricalfabrics for the collars. Crowley’s polo is still a bit too big for him, but it should fit him sometime this summer. Can’t wait to be matchy matchy with him 😂

Family jackets project loading… 😁 I’ll be using @simplicity_creative_group #s3038 designed by @norrisdantaford. Love the style lines on this jacket! It is a men’s jacket so it’s going to end up a little more oversized on me than I was hoping. I’ll see what I can do as I’m cutting and sewing though. I’m hoping to use black faux suede for mine and Andrew’s jackets. I ordered a couple swatches yesterday, so I’m just waiting for those to come in before I order. In the meantime, I’ve got my linings ready (swipe to see—solid black for Andrew, black check for me, and colorful check for Crowley 😁) so I can go ahead and cut those out. Since I can batch sew the jackets, I don’t anticipate it will take that much longer to sew two than if I just made a jacket for myself. For Crowley’s jacket though, I’m using a vintage kids jacket pattern that @marilisalugo got for me (Thank you, Marilisa!!). Previously I was thinking about scaling down the Simplicity jacket, but tbh that’s just more work than I want to put in. Maybe if I bought the pdf version, I could have used my projector to do that, but I didn’t, so his wont match. That’s okay though. For Crow’s I am going to skip the suede and go with a denim in my stash. I’m deciding between two greens—hunter vs olive—or maybe a checkerboard remnant that I have left over from a pair pants I made for myself. But I’m tempted to save that checkerboard to make Crowley some pants so we can be matchy matchy 😂, so I’ll likely go with one of the greens. All linings are shirting fabrics from @moodfabrics.

Another #WIPwednesday on a Thursday because I forgot to post it yesterday 😂 This wasn’t my most sewing-productive week because my sister has been in town visiting, so hanging out with her has been my top priority!!! I wish we lived closer! 1-3: This week I finished @simplicity_creative_group #m8142, view C as a top. Pics of it on to come, but this was a very quick sew! I added 2” in length to the shoulders as McCall’s patterns are always too short in the upper chest area on me. I also eliminated the elastic in the channel because it was making the top uncomfortable and drape in weird ways. The final top is soooo comfortable but kind of….meh? Idk, I think the day I finished it, I was having a bad body image day, so i just need some more time to style it and more jeans options than I currently have. 4-6: My sister and I went to the Solid Gold exhibit at @brooklynmuseum. It was sponsored by @dior, so it has a heavy fashion emphasis. Pictured are my two favorite pieces from the exhibit—the corset dress by The Blonds and the ballgown by Balenciaga (but there were soooo many good ones. If you want to see more from the exhibit, comment down below and I can add to stories—I took so many pics!) 7-8: the suede arrived for the family jackets project. I already finished Crowley’s (see previous post), and Andrew’s and mine will be matching. Using @simplicity_creative_group #s3038. 9-12: Lots of patterns arrived this week that I bought! I’m building my stash of kids patterns when they’re on sale, and @marilisalugo also sent me the most *adorable* vintage kids activity book pattern!! 🤩. This week’s #WeeklyWIPs post! P.S., it has been said that people wish more of the people they follow would do this. Take it as your sign to copy! 🤠 1.–3. Starting off with the most important- Began construction of #s3038, and I have figured out the most beautiful, easy, foolproof way to sew welt pockets!!!! Sewed four in a row, all perfection. I’m SO EXCITED about it. Tutorial coming! 4.–6. My initial idea for my jacket collar was to weave one in leather a la Bottega Veneta. But after weaving a little sample, I’ve decided I no longer want to go this route and will do just a regular collar instead. It will still be in the smooth grain leather I bought from @moodfabrics, which is still a gorgeous contrast from the microsuede I bought from @fabricwholesaledirect. I’m loving the visual interest with varying the texture in this tone-on-tone mixing 😍 7./8. I present to you: the reveal of the backing fabric for my Peanut Butter Quilt!!! 😂💛 I wanted something equally as fun as the top. 9. Knits are so hard to gauge online. I ordered lots of swatches. 10./11. Discovered a new-to-me fabric: nylon taslan. I bought it to make a few pairs of @bygraciesteel Foxie Boxies as workout shorts. PERFECT fabric for this, and can also see it being fab for a variety of cool streetwear applications. 12. My first pair of Foxie Boxies. Pattern is great- more in depth thoughts to come. 13. Bonus: You know what’s hilarious? Seeing Crowley “play” with the @fruxstudio banana I made him 🤣🍌 There was also one other secret project this week, but I have to wait until its recipient receives it to share. IYKYK 👻😜
