The Peony Dress...using Badgley Mischka #vogue1579 and modified to use the peony petals as the cape outline. Because I was inspired by flowerhead costumes 😆😆😆. I want to be a pretty flowerhead okay! 😜🏵 I still can't believe I cut up the gorgeous peony though, you can't even tell it's a peony anymore 😭. Peony fabric from @juliaallissoncost . --- I made size 6 bodice graded out to 8 at the waist and hips but I think a straight 6 would have been fine. I omitted the belt and used a RTW one. Finished this in time for the holidays - my #memade Christmas dress! 🤩 ✨ these pics will have to do cause I'm planning to live in sweatpants until January 🙂 Vogue 1579 by @badgleymischka is a really fun cape dress, would love to try this again in another solid color someday! Pattern notes: 1) As others have noted, the cape instructions don't make sense, so you need to add it with visible seams inside. No biggie cause no one sees that anyway 2) Would be easier to get in and out of with a longer zipper The dress is fully lined, which makes it feel extra polished. Sheila has been working some wonders with our Australian sharkskin suiting. She had first shared her work after entering a three-season coat in a sewing competition last fall (shown in second image). That project left just 3/4 yd remaining of this luxurious wool/silk suiting which she was determined to make the most of! She liked the "special lines & pretty seaming" of #V1579, but she made it her own by using the sharkskin (# 51181) for the bottom and a contrasting slubbed silk from her stash for the top. Nothing quite says “I woke up and it was 29 degrees this morning” like a post of a spaghetti-strap cocktail dress 😉 So in honor of it making it all the way up to 54 today, I popped down to my favorite park @gathertulsa for a few quick snaps of this long overdue project. This evening-leaning cocktail dress is made of rosé colored supima cotton (super soft with a subtle satin sheen and easy to work with because well...it’s cotton!) from @joann_stores and the pattern is a mash-up of the top from @deer_and_doe_patterns #centaurée dress and the skirt from @mccallpatterncompany #v1579. This ended up being a match made in heaven, the top and bottom came together so seamlessly (...pun intended) and the sizing was just right as well so no need to fiddle with redrawing side seams. Nice to have the antique Victorian Crazy quilt in my studio for background.
