Talk about a labor of love 💙 my partner is a musician and requested a western-style shirt to wear to his bluegrass gigs. After lots of searching, I found vintage pattern #S9886 from 1981, which was *almost* exactly what I was looking for - the only change I made was to redraft the back yoke to be scalloped like the front (the pattern just had a normal back yoke). The floral fabric is a #RiflePaperCo quilting cotton, and the black is a shirting cotton from @britexfabrics. The notions for this project were also crucial - piping from laceking on Etsy and the pearl snaps are from BagsBeadsandMore on Etsy. My boyfriend is still out of town so I can’t try it on him, but paws are crossed it fits well and I can make him a whole wardrobe of cowboy shirts 🤠 . Project 51 of 2022. Hi 👋 Yes I’m holding space in this simplicity S9886 dress..just made me laugh because there’s a bit of a wicked witch style here in my hat. I’m not, I don’t have a cat or a broom (I have a little robot hoover does that count ?) ..what I do have is a sewing machine to russle up this little number. I altered the bodice to make a good fit with the princess seams and bust darts. This is more of a wearable toile as it was made out of quite wallet friendly cotton. If I made this again I’d use more luxury fabric and try and adapt the sleeves full length and colour block them too. Easy sew, and was over the moon when it all pattern matched first try at the side seams, must have been a good spell of luck! The cowboy shirt I made my boyfriend last year has gotten lots of wear (he’s a musician and plays a lot of bluegrass gigs), so I decided to make him another! I used a vintage pattern (#S9886), graded to his size, lengthened the sleeves 2”, and changed the shape of the back yoke. The navy is a cotton/poly from @joann_stores and the contrast is a @riflepaperco quilting cotton. I normally never sew with poly and didn’t particularly love working it with this time… but he picked the fabrics, and having something a little harder wearing + wrinkle resistant is probably best for him anyway. . Finished 6/7/23.
