Summer separates ☀️ . The top is Simplicity s8927 view A. My measurements put me in a size 12, but knowing that Big 4 patterns run large, I made a size 10. This was 100% the correct choice. The straps are a teeny tiny bit too long, which means they occasionally slide off my shoulders, but it’s not enough to stop me wearing it. I made this from a bed sheet I thrifted from Value Village. . I drafted the skirt using @montoyamayo Half Circle Skirt with Pockets free tutorial. It was pretty easy to hack this into a button front skirt. I used the front pattern piece for the back of my skirt. Then I extended the center seam of the back pattern piece by 1” to make my two front pieces. And I extended my waistband by 1” on each end as well. Then, instead of inserting a zip, I folded over the extra at the front to make a facing/button placket and top stitched it down. I made this from a 100% linen IKEA curtain that I received from someone in my neighborhood’s Buy Nothing group. . I love each of these pieces on their own. They pair with a lot of other things in my closet. And I love them even more together. It’s the perfect hot weather outfit. I made 8 of my 9 #makenine2022 garments this year and I'm pretty pleased with my success! I probably could have done all nine if I hadn't made outfits for both NYC and Philly Frocktails, but it was worth it. ☺️ It was a good year for me for sewing, even if a lot of my makes didn't make it to my grid. I learned how to do FBAs and SBAs, and I got a lot better sewing on a deadline. All in all, I'm pleased. These are the last of my makes for our holiday (feels like a lifetime ago now). These photos were taken at home in the summer as I didn't actually wear either shorts or top on holiday. And really I'm not sure why, as I love both garments.🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm not sure I felt entirely comfortable with the cropped top - maybe a bit of doubt around whether a 'woman my age' should be wearing such a thing. Ridiculous I know, as I'm a firm believer in wearing whatever you want at any age if it makes you happy. Or maybe it was just that they're both white garments, and I'm notoriously clumsy wearing white? (Think food spillage, red wine, yep, that's me 🙄☺️) Next holiday maybe... Anyway, fabric is enzyme washed eco 100% linen (230gsm), 1.70m leftover from a previous make and I managed to squeeze both shorts and top out of it with careful cutting. Shorts are @closetcorepatterns Pietra Shorts with added side zip and added length for long legs. Top is @simplicitymccallsuk S8927 (MimiG Style), which I lengthened by a couple of inches. „Too Hot Too Cold pt 13 🔥 🥶“ Happy Monday shiny happy people! 🥰💖 New week, (finally) new make. This one took me a while (mainly to get the skirt to fit) but the work was totally worth it. This is Simplicity pattern 8927 which is an older @mimigstyle pattern and the fabric is from @minervadotcom . I bought this one last year because I loved the giant lobster print and decided to trial this pattern for another fabric from my stash. Very happy with the fit now but my hips were a bit more „feminin“ than what size 14 would’ve given me so I had to take out the seams to gain an inch. Now it is perfect and I can channel my inner Sade with this outfit. Two in one month... OK thats a little lie! This was originally started in July 2021 but I got a little 'stressed' with the button holes so threw in the corner (in a strop!) and forgot about it!!! Due to the 'few' additional covid kilos I had to unpick the waist band and front panel and enlarge both... HOWEVER... I can now do button holes (well better than before 😂🤣) but it's finally done!!! I love to sew… this gives me so much happiness, motivation and enjoyment I can’t explain it. Last night after I finished all my orders and closed door after my last client and wrap my kids up to their beds I did treat myself with a glass of wine, Netflix movie and cut in and sewed up a new set… a Mimi G Style Simpliciy 8927 skirt pattern and a Vogue 1835 Lounge Sweater… and I love this look !!! For skirt I have used scuba knit in Rose Tan color from @fabricmart . Instead of putting a buttons I placed a metal snaps in a rows od two. Honestly I did not like to straight look of the skirt on me, so I did temper from the bottom line to achieve a pencil look skirt. I am truly happy with a final look of the skirt!!! As for the sweater… oh my ☺️ this lovely, rich and fluffy knit from @joann_stores is perfect. Not to mention color scheme is 👌. It was a great and satisfying sewing night… and now happy to share it with you ☺️. Made something a little different for this months @fibremood issue 🧢🧢 Stepped out of my comfort zone for this one, but it was super fun! I used this interesting textured woven cotton from my stash. The construction was way less intimidating than I expected, and I had all the materials I needed in my stash. White is a basic choice for me but the texture (you can’t really tell in the pics) makes it really cool. Still need to get some sew on Velcro for the back closure so I’ll show more closeup detail pics when its fully done 🥰. Skirt and belt are vintage. Okay so I’m not going to lie and say I absolutely loved this fit because I didn’t. 🙃I mean she cute though lol I was just really bummed that I didn’t have enough fabric to make the dress I really wanted and had to settle for something else quickly. 🤪 I hacked the top and made a shirred back panel. Also added 2.5” of length to the bodice. The skirt I shortened 4 inches!!! Ready for the picnic! I made this picnic inspired set using a tablecloth I got at the thrift store. It is pure #dopaminedressing and perfect for pride month 🌈 The pants are the #closetcorejenny in size 2 at the waist, graded to a 4 at the hips, which corresponds to the sizes for my measurements. The top is #s8927. I sized down one size to a 6 as I usually do with big 4 patterns and ended up taking about a half inch out of the side seams above the dart. I used just about every scrap of fabric I had so I’m happy I was able to achieve some decent pattern matching. I’m also really happy with this vintage basket purse I got on eBay recently. I’ve been wanting one for a while and it is such a joy to carry. Nothing like going through the self checkout at the grocery store with your little basket 😁

#MeMadeMay Day 27 with one of my favorite makes to date. Made these jeans this winter and I’m still so impressed with how they came out. The pattern called for a stretch material so I did size up since this fabric has no give. The construction was pretty straight forward, with techniques I’ve used before (front fly, curved waistband, yoke, and slash pockets). The fit of the back needs work so I’ll figure that out for the next pair with faux leather whenever I get to it. The top is a very early make that has a matching skirt that I’ll never wear with this, but I’ve worn as separates. It was the first garment I made that was lined, and it came together surprisingly easy minus some fit issues, back when I was a beginner. When I dreamt up what a mini collection may look like in the vibrant streets of Italy accompanied by oceanfront views, I knew a flirty top and skirt combo with some movement had to be included. Both patterns were incredibly fun to work on with clear instructions. It was my first time making a wrap skirt, but once I worked out in my mind where the different tie lengths come into play, it was a breeze! I finally worked up the nerve to use some lovely fabrics I’ve been saving in my stash for something special, and I love how the pairing came together.
