Le format V2000, également appelé Video Compact Cassette (VCC) a été conçu par Philips et commercialisé en 1979. Comme les cassettes audio, elles sont enregistrables sur les deux faces. Sur une bande magnétique d’un demi pouce (comme la VHS), il y a deux pistes video qui permettaient d’enregistrer jusqu’à 8 heures sur les cassettes type 480, avec le son en mono ou stéréo, c’était un format économique. Vitesse de défilement de la bande à 2,44 cm/s (contre 2,34 pour la VHS), la définition en points par lignes est de 230 (240 pour la VHS). Comme c’est un format ancien, il n’est pas rare de trouver des « pépites » sur ces cassettes (le terme « pépites » est discutable). Des cassettes préenregistrées aux contenus divers ont été proposées à la vente et à la location, puis bradées : la production s’est arrêtée en 1988.
