A few days late but here is the Mary Anning costume I made for Halloween from a set of bed sheets. The skirt and cape were self drafted but the blouse, which isn't really visible here, uses sleeves from #b6537. I made another jacket with some modifications. Happy Halloween! 🎃 The year is 1897 and I’m bringing “big sleeve energy”. 💪 This was supposed to be an “all stash fabric” costume after I found about 10 yards of random black poly taffeta in with my coating fabrics. After the base costume was done, it was looking a little plain. I got some trims and this amazing flocked snake on mesh from @joann_stores to make the overskirt. . 🕸️💜 1890'sVictorian Crimson Peak but make it "prêt-à-porter" 💜🕸️ So happy I could re-style this historical costume I made a couple years ago, into a more "casual" look! I paired it with a plain pencil skirt and some creepers! Since the commencement of my sewing journey, I had the dream to make an historical costume. I have always been interested in fashion history. One of my favourite pre 20th century fashion styles, is the Victorian era. I love the gothic vibe, tight laced bodice, bustle skirt, the silhouette, the big sleeves, all of it! I especially love the Fantasy/horror movie Victorian fashion, that we see in the movies. I drew my inspiration from the excellent Crimson Peal movie. As main fabric, I have chosen a lovely black and white striped, printed Polycotton Fabric. To make the design more interesting and highlight the thin stripes, I cut the front panel, side back panels and the lower sleeves in a deep violet cotton. Deep violet back panels and bottom band were also added to the skirt, which gives a more structured look to the ensemble. Mymy, this project has been the most time consuming of all my sewing life! This took me at least 30 hours to make. Some photos of the second cycling suit I've made. The jacket is#b6537. I heightened the collar so it would fold down. Accounted for the fact I wanted buttons and widened the front so it overlapped without a placket. Folded over the facing and top stitched it down. I originally planned to widen the facing so I could fold the lapels down and you wouldn't see where it ends but forgot and didn't have the fabric to recut. But it at least doesn't have flappy facing if I fold it out. I held my breath and jumped in. And I’m so dang proud of myself. There is a lot of inside construction missing but it was about the sleeves. THOSE SLEEVES! I couldn’t believe I A) constructed them and B) did it pretty quickly given the gathering and the tricky attachment. Anyhoo, just wanted to share that I’m so proud of myself and we had so much fun getting dressed up. Oh and we met the person who did Nadja’s hair for the first few seasons and they liked my buns!! Win! AND my skirt is from the @55thousanddresses sale, a treasure hunter’s dream 💜
