Started with the intention of being a Christmas dress, but I was stressing too much so I stopped trying to get it done in time. I think I finished it the day after Christmas 😅 And since it is now spring I thought I would try to style it less Christmasy. I don't think I made any real changes to the patterns. Even construction wise, the sleeves are basically just gathered and sewn on top of the dress, so easy! My favourite pants! And a scrappy test shirt. #s8447 Simplicity 1940s work pants, view c - sized down two sizes from the pattern's suggestion as I didn't want 5.5" ease in the waist since I will wear them as regular trousers, not over-wear. The top is a toile of #s8506 which is a 1930s sleeve set. I just used the bodice base with an enlarged neckline so I could pull it over. I love these pleated sleeves, so I look forward to playing with them more! This is my latest Brand Ambassador project with the lovely black kitties on purple fabric having been gifted by @minervadotcom I felt wearing it to Whitby just seemed right, it's a great dress nice and comfy. And the photos were taken at the end of the day, I was pleasantly surprised that the skirt hadn't creased from being worn while driving (it still hadn't creased by the time I was back at the hotel). I will get some sitting and indoor pictures once I am back across the border. My next exciting project #S8506

HAPPY 2023, HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! This is my last sewing project of 2022, finished on December 31, 2022. I have been wanting a cherry printed dress for the longest time, and I am so glad that I now have this one. I used Simplicity 8506 (c) 1978. I think the version with ruffles on the pockets and top of the bodice is cute, but the ruffles looked a little too costume-y vintage for me. I love vintage styles for me, but only if they're modified to look current. The ruffles just didn't fit my style sensibilities. But I absolutely am over the moon about the dress that I did make. It's the perfect sundress! Besides sewing it without the ruffles, I also changed the bodice gathers to pleats, and added a self tie belt. I am on the tail end of my sew-cation, and have a lot to finish before then. I will be sewing like the wind! A fitted sheath dress in the same colorway (green, white, and red) is up next. Please take care of yourself and stay safe. Covid is on the rise again, so please stay safe, whatever that means for you. For me, it means wearing a mask, keeping my distance from others, washing my hands, and disinfecting things I bring home from the store. But that's just me. Do whatever you think is best for you. Post-work photo of the finished #simplicity1419, which I finally got around to wearing today. The sleeves are from #s8506. It's so cute! I got a lot of compliments on it. The seersucker is light and breezy, and while it is just a tad stiff for the sleeves it ends up giving them just the right amount of structure. The pockets make it very practical for work. I made them a wee bit bigger than was drafted. This was my second time making this dress. I think it may have been the second or third dress I ever made? Doing a lot of pattern revisiting this year. #simplicitypatterns #s1419

Here's the lovely inspiration for my latest #memademake #S8506. I followed the instructions for C but the result looks remarkably like A! And that's ok. I just love it.

And here is a 'colour' photo of my outfit, I wore it so I could check how the length of the skirt is when being worn on uneven ground so it will be ok for Fantasy Forest – I know how the skirt is without the ruffle but with the ruffle I needed to check. Also it meant I could get a tin type photo without any queue, like there will be at Fantasy Forest. The dress and over skirt are made of linen, my stays (the bodice over the dress) and the hat are cotton canvas (so is my bag but it's not visible). Not pictured is the linen belted mantle that I made to wear as a top layer if it’s a bit chilly – I didn’t need it for the day. The dress is a combo of Vogue 9100 and Vogue 1732/8882, the over skirt is self drafted. The stays are Simplicity 8162. The sleeves are also a Simplicity pattern 8506. The hat and Lila (the furry familiar) are both from patterns by CholyKnight on Etsy https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/CholyKnight - the patterns are really well written with photos for each stage of the construction, the hat is very simple but the neck creatures are a bit more complex and they need more specialised parts – including doll armature or wire, to enable the creature to be positioned just as you want. Lila is a shapeshifter who tried to be a cat (used the cat pattern and due to the eyes and the fur she looks more like a koala crossed with a cat). The leash is just a rainbow cord knitted into an icord. The goggles were bought on Etsy. All fabric except the fur was from Minerva the fur was from a local shop, they sold off remnants and I bought it thinking it would be useful. Flocked linen #SashaMccalls from my #makenine2020 list. Been really looking forward to making this but when I started cutting I realised the view B sleeve was more tubular and not wider at the cuff like the illustration shows. So I decided to go with view C sleeves from vintage #simplicity8506 instead and they are my new favourite sleeves! So much movement 🥰 Since I’d cut the body first I had to redraft the sleeve head to fit. This is a straight size 12, midi length, with 14 waist but could have gone 16. Widened the top of the neckline by 1 inch each side, moved pleat a touch and redrafted facings to match. Really liking the shoulder pleat! #Ivoted (weeks ago by mail 😊) and instead of letting anxiety take over I'm working on this puff sleeve top. Pretty much done with the construction and now I'm just working on the final finishes. I'm planning on adding some detachable vegan leather sleeves and some knife pleat Ruffles at the neckline and bottom. An elevated version of my original way back in the beginning dresses. The body & collar are my own design, the sleeves are from the @simplicity_creative_group pattern #s8506 or #D0823 (depending on if you got the display version or drawer version). I combined views C & D & heavily altered it as well so that it wasn’t a massive puff. I really loved the gathers on the shoulder though & wanted to do something more interesting than just a regular puff sleeve. The sleeve pattern is actually literally just a pattern of various vintage 1930’s sleeves, which is so awesome. #s8695 is also a pattern of just vintage 1930’s sleeves. As a person that likes to combine different pieces from different patterns together, especially sleeves, I find this delightful. The actual dress is made from black cotton batiste from a store that no longer exists. The collar fabric was in my closet. I think it’s Kona cotton left from dog bandanas I made. The trim is from a box of someone’s grandmother’s sewing trims that they sent me like 20 years ago. The ribbon is double faced satin ribbon from @moodfabrics This is like signature me. For those of you that have known me forever you’d be like oh right yes, that’s a Nanette dress, even though it has definitely evolved. I really really look forward to making more of my own designs, I have a giant stack of drawn out ideas & my notes app is full of things I pop out of my head so I don’t forget. I just figured I’d make a bunch of stuff from patterns that people search so I can get out there as much as possible at this point. And if I didn’t have to sew all of it I would seriously have my own clothing line. Love the design portion. Hopefully this photo loaded at a much better quality than it was looking like! One of the few things I made myself last fall. It’s a mash up of my fav #ashtontop from @helens__closet and a sleeve pattern by @simplicity_creative_group #s8506. The fabric is vintage (2 color ways!) and was probably intended for children but idc. I didn’t have enough bc the sleeves took up a lot of fabric so I used some gingham (also vintage) to finish it off. It’s really hard to capture how fun the sleeves are but I tried!
