Wow, wow, wow! What a dress! 😍 @leila.makes sew up the #M8382 from @mccallpatterncompany using one of our Liberty prints, and we think the outcome is glorious! 💃 Sadly, this fabric has sold out, but this make is too good not to share! #TheFabricStore #FabricSale #LibertyFabric

I had the best time at @losangelesfrocktails this year! I made the McCall's @brandijoan #m8382 out of the Favorite Cotton from @stonemountainfabric. I originally made this fabric into a zero waste dress dress which I never wore (and made it a 100% waste dress) and I was glad to finally use this fabric in a way that feels more my style. I made a few mods to the pattern like losing 5 inches of length due to repurposing the material. I used piping at the armhole and neckline and in the end found the straps to still be a little bit too big. I had to make a quick fix by adding a string between the straps and an extra bow at the bust to make the dress easier to wear over and over.

Hi friends! I recently finished making this beautiful princess-seamed green dress and I wanted to tell you more about it! I absolutely ADORE this neckline cut, and the clingy fitted skirt that gently flares out below the knees 😍 Pattern: @simplicity_creative_group McCall's #M8382 by @brandijoan sewn in size 14 for by B36, W28, H37. The pattern came out quite large and I removed ~4" from the bust and ~2" from the waist and hips Fabric: Poly satin purchased from Fabricland (in-store) I have a full youtube video about the process of making this dress, so feel free to check it out if you are interested! . Overall, I love this make and I am so excited to style it for Valentine's day 😊💖 I will post more photos soon!

Okay! More details and better close-ups of the @simplicity_creative_group McCall's #M8382 by @brandijoan (view B) Sizing: sewn in size 14 for my B36", W28", H37". Next time I would sew a 10/12. Modifications: I had to remove ~4" from the bust and ~2" from the waist and hips. I interfaced the neckline (front and back) using a stiffer interfacing. I interfaced the cup lining with a soft, flexible interfacing. I did a rolled hem. Fabric: Poly satin purchased from Fabricland (in-store). This lightweight satin looks great, but definitely required interfacing to get the right result. I love the finished result, the neckline is definitely the main appeal of the pattern for me! I will say that the bust fit is not perfect - the underbust seam sits too high on me, and there is little to no bust support. Those with larger chests may need to do some bust fit testing to ensure you have enough coverage/support. When I wear it out, I will need to use double-sided clothing tape to keep the bust in place! Overall, love this dress! 😍

Here’s @leila.makes in McCall’s #M8382 by designer @brandijoan. Here’s what she said about making it: “this is quite possibly the nicest dress i’ve ever made ✨ so i can only go up from here 😂 i saw a v similar dress ad floating around my ig explore page & a few weeks later connected the dots that it was basically M8382 so i got to WORK 💃🏻 while the fit required some work, the instructions were not terrible at all ~ i really enjoyed learning how to insert an invisible zip into a dress w a separate lining ❤️ i do think i used what i’ve learned over the years to refine the steps a bit more, but all in all, it came together beautifully i also took this as an opportunity to cut into some of my nicest fabric that ive been holding onto for a couple years 😅 a gorgeous @libertyfabrics cotton print from @wearethefabricstore & used a good ole cotton bedsheet as my lining.” Check out Leila’s original post for additional notes on modifications and hacks. Bravo, Leila! 🪡 #mccallspatterns #brandijoanpatterns #diystyle #diyfashion

I finally finished this dress ❤️ here are my notes for the sewists out there: I made MANY alterations to this #M8382 McCalls dress pattern (full bust adjustment per YouTube videos, took off many cm from the back panels at the top by accordion folding from the center line to remove excess fabric, added more fabric to the derrière for comfort and moveability, added length at l+s line because I’m on the taller side, added an extra tie to the front) I used crimson linen from @fabricsstorecom and a thrifted bedsheet from my favorite thrift shop in Aspen, CO. All notions (gutterman thread & invisible zipper) are from WAWAK. I made two toiles to check the fit before cutting into my fancy linen. I still had to make some adjustments on the final version. Seem ripping linen is very 😬 This pattern was challenging and frustrating because of fit issues, but I’m happy with the results.

I make a lot of indies but haven’t made a Big 4/Big 5 in a long time but I wanted a statement date night dress and it’s a sewing win. 🙌 this is the first version; the muslin but that is all I needed. Brandi Joan is one of my new favs and I’ll be making more of her patterns. I did a full YouTube review on the pattern. Go check it out—same name on YouTube. this is quite possibly the nicest dress i’ve ever made ✨ so i can only go up from here 😂 i saw a v similar dress ad floating around my ig explore page & a few weeks later connected the dots that it was basically the @mccallpatterncompany x @brandijoan #M8382 so i got to WORK 💃🏻 i sized down to sz 8 & then trimmed off 1/8” from all bodice seams further for a better fit (finished measurements chart gives a lot of ease). this dress might also be the *nicest* i’ve ever made bc i made a (wearable toile‼️) to jot down further adjustments ~ since i have a general distrust for good fit right off the bat w big 4/5 patterns 🤷🏻♀️ other mods i made: 🐸 -1/2” wedge from the front yoke piece along the neckline to prevent gaping at my upper bust 🐸 -1/2” wedge from the back neckline strap along the neckline to prevent gaping at my upper back 🐸 shifted the straps inward by 1/4” (though probably could have done 1/2” for even better fit) to keep the straps from just falling off my shoulders 🐸 replaced all but the center front skirt panel with a 2.5x gathered skirt at my waist level, in view B (midi length) 🐸 added inseam pockets bc ofc it has pockets 🐸 replaced the front tie w a frog closure & am thoroughly obsessed - may have to include frog closures to more of my makes while the fit required some work, the instructions were not terrible at all ~ i really enjoyed learning how to insert an invisible zip into a dress w a separate lining ❤️ i do think i used what i’ve learned over the years to refine the steps a bit more, but all in all, it came together beautifully i also took this as an opportunity to cut into some of my nicest fabric that ive been holding onto for a couple years 😅 a gorgeous @libertyfabrics cotton print from @wearethefabricstore & used a good ole cotton bedsheet as my lining fabric this dress is a top contender for the upcoming @saltlakesewciety slc frocktails next month & i can’t wait to meet all the local sewists in the salt lake area 🥰 #memade #mccallspatterns #mccalls8382 #youcanhackit #frogdress [Image ID in alt text]

This dress is proof that you don’t need a bunch of fancy equipment to sew a nice garment. I made this dress in the middle of my travel with just a base model sewing machine and a few notions I took with me. I used my bed as my cutting table and pressing station 😂. . Side note to my full bust girlies yes you definitely need to do a FBA (full bust adjustment) on this dress due to time I did not and am using boob tape to help hold them up 😂😂. . This and that in the sewing room 💛🪡 I don’t post much to my grid these days (I’m more of an IG stories gal), but I love using Instagram as a way to track progress on my projects like a journal of my making. So I was inspired by @thenewyorkyear to start a #WIPwednesday series. Less perfection, more progress, more…in the moment! It’s no longer Wednesday, but the days on maternity leave are kind of a blur, so maybe next week will be on the right day? Who cares. No promises 😂 WIP WEDNESDAY PROJECT UPDATE: 1. Today I’m cutting out #m8142. I’m using a black jersey knit and I’m modifying view C into a top. McCall’s patterns are always too short for me in the shoulders, so I’m adding an inch to front and back, and grading from a 10 at bust to a 12 in the waist. 2. The black suede swatches arrived for my upcoming jacket project. I’m using #s3038 (more detail in a previous post). I loved the swatch from @fabricwholesaledirect, and ordered the full qty needed for that project. That will be next on my sewing table as soon as it arrives. Love jacket sewing! Can’t wait to get started on this. Linings pictured in the background and are from @moodfabrics. 3. This week I sewed up a toile of #m8382. It’s a low-cut dress design, so I wanted to make sure I had good fit on that bodice. As usual, I’ve added length to the shoulders and graded between sizes at bust and waist. I’ve pinned out the excess at the neckline, so my next steps are to adjust my pattern pieces. I might make one more muslin just to check before I cut into fabric. Not sure what I’m going to use yet! 4. I finished a jacket for Crowley this week! 🥹 I wanted to make us all matching jackets, but suede doesn’t seem like the best choice for a baby. 😅 (more details in previous post) 5. / 6. As always, I’ve got my eye on future makes. Here are a few that have my attention. Knits patterns in pic 5, wovens in pic 6. 7. Always lots of kitty “helping” along the way.
