A thousand thanks to everyone who read my previous post and especially to all of you who took the time to help me out with a comment or suggestion!!😘🙌😘 I knew the dress didn’t feel /look exactly right on me but I couldn’t figure out the root cause - until you - the fabulous sewing community - offered up some insights & ideas! 👏 Look how improved it is with the jeans jacket!😱😍 I already love it 10 times more! I’m excited to try out the other styling suggestions several of you shared - belt, scarf, vest, necklace, etc. - but we traveled to visit the grandkids before I could gather up any accessories! I appreciate those you who said it looks as designed - it is growing on me & I know I can make it work!!👍 I am ALSO excited to implement the sewing adjustments many of you suggested - reducing or eliminating the dropped shoulders, removing some of the bulk at the sleeve cuffs, perhaps making a bigger cowl neck and using a more drapey fabric - all fabulous ideas I will investigate on Version Number Two. 🙌 This is just a small example of why I love this Sewing Community! Finished this sweater dress just in time for some cooler weather! 🌧 I used an easy pattern for this dress #N6683. This was a fast and easy October make!👏🙌👍 Until I started thinking it was too boxy. 😱 Sooooooo….. - I took it in on the side seams. - It looked good from the front, but kind of wonky on the sides. So I ripped it out. 😠 - I sewed a ribbon casing across the back & inserted elastic. (Photo 2) - The elastic was too wide & too stiff so I pulled it out. 😠 - I fed through some other elastic. (Photo 3) - My daughter gave it a thumbs down 👎 and suggested putting in back darts, so I pulled out the elastic… - And I ripped out the casing. 🤦‍♀️ But before starting to measure for darts, I thought I better take the dress out for a spin & get some photos. That’s what I’m working on today #waiwot . 😑 Pattern: New Look #n6683 (photo 4) Fabric: a cable-knit-looking piece from @joann_stores What do you think? Too boxy? Yesterday’s sewing make was New Look Pattern #N6683 @simplicity_creative_group . I made it out of the most yummy sweater knit fabric from @melanatedfabricsco . It’s so cozy and oversized. When I make this dress again, I will down size and use a twin needle for the neckband. I find that every time I use a zigzag stitch for the neck and hem band that it looks wavy when I put the garment on. No worries though. I still love the cozy feels that I get from this dress.
