#S9370 from @mimigstyle in a floral printed knit from the best remnant bin in NYC at @chicfabric This fabric has been waiting in my stash and I'm not sure what it's made of--it has a fluid, heavy drape but also a dry, papery hand feel. I love the pattern, which also conveniently disguises any sheerness in the knit. I've been struggling to find the time to sew, not helped by the fact that I'm a one-or-two-session sewer and a lot of the projects I want to make right now are bigger ones. I decided to do this one-night-friendly dress as a way to fight the inertia. This is a size 12 with maybe .75" added to the bottom of the bodice pieces and a side slit added on the right for movement. I fully faced and turned out the waist ties since the reverse of my fabric is white. I needed a dress for a graduation coming up and of course, as a sewist...I had absolutely nothing to wear 😏. So I dug deep and pulled out this beautiful stretchy raised print Lyra knit originally from #fabricland. Comfort is always important for people like me who just does not do "formal" very often, so I chose #simplicitypatterns #s9370 this an easy pattern but it can be difficult if you're not used to working with stretch fabrics. Probably the most difficult part was putting the zipper in. 🤐 For extra comfort, I added a bit of length to my sleeves. Also, I thought the asymmetrical hem I ended up with was a neat detail that compliments the print, so I left it like that. What do you think? Too loud? My first make of 2023. MimiG’s #s9370 #simplicity9370 “life is a party, dress accordingly” I LOVE this pattern. I didn’t look at it very closely before I started, and didn’t even know it had an invisible zipper but I was able to scrounge one up out of my zipper stash. It’s such a beautiful little detail. I had to modify the sash/belt a bit as it’s designed to be wider but hemmed all around and I didn’t want to do that because the fabric is only printed on one side. So I folded it in half. if I’d had enough fabric I would have just doubled both sashes and kept it wide (did that even make sense?). The fabric is a second hand vintage polyester knit from @swansonsfabrics and it is FABULOUS! A dream to sew. Though, with my hyper texture and temperature sensitivities, probably not a dream to wear.😂 I’m going to make this dress again, minus the cut out detail, because it is such a gorgeous, simple, A-line design and goes together so nicely. And I’m thinking it would be a fun design detail to do an exposed zipper. Anyway. I love this dress. I have no idea when/where I will wear it. #sewover50 #sewover50dresses

So. . . about these sleeves: I took the original sleeve pattern from simplicity pattern #s9370 and used the slash/spread method to add in pleats where the sleeve attaches to the bodice (swipe left for a snippet). The result was a sleeve pattern that was nearly 50 inches in width. I had fully intended on arranging the pleats to make sure the neckline kept it’s original measurement but I just wasn’t successful. I eliminated the mock turtleneck and instead staystitched and bound the neckline. This dragon scale ponte is from Boho fabrics and has great body but it does not have a stiffness that would keep the “balloon” shape of the sleeve on its own. I added interfacing to the bottom half of the sleeve to help maintain the shape. Why just the bottom you ask? Because I had already attached the sleeve to the bodice and was not about to detach it and rip out all those pleats to add interfacing (#lazy). But next time, I would definitely interface the entire sleeve. Your enthusiasm of this pattern fabric pairing from my reel got me hyped! I whipped up this wide leg jumpsuit and I love it! I try other jumpsuit patterns but this one is IT for me! I can whip this up straight out of the package with no fit adjustments; thank you back darts 😉. The pattern does not include pockets, but I always add them where I can. If you go back to the blue jumpsuit reel, you will see it's a very similar pattern (I am trying to sew my stash). I love this pattern so much, I made another version. The cut out is so cute! Some notes if you decide to make this pattern. I cut size 8 for the yellow version and this version. Both were with rib knits, but this knit wasn't as stretchy, so I should have cut the size 10. It was a little tighter on me. I always go down a size when working with stretchy knits, but this knit was more stable so I should have stayed to my usual pattern size. I shortened the skirt about 5-6 inches so it's a little longer than the shorter version. I love my legs so why not flaunt them as much as I can. 😆 Yes, it was cold outside. Still haven't found a great consistent indoor place for photos. 😩Until then, I will have to freeze or make more jackets. I love the vintage pattern, but I fell in love as soon as I saw S9370. The reason is that this pattern has few pieces. With my busy schedule, I do not have time for design with many parts. The hardest part of this pattern is the cutting, and the easiest part is sewing all pieces with the serger. However, I made some adjustments. I made an entire dress(the Blue) and cut out the side on the Pink dress using the same pattern. Unfortunately, todays weather is not the best to show skin. So I decided to layer it up hence the black. When using this pattern, watch out for the belt as it could throw one off-balance, but Mimi Gs video does help to solve that issue. My new favorite @mimigstyle pattern (I say that every time I sew a new one). I wanted to make this the second the pattern came out but got preoccupied with other things. I love the cut out for this dress and the tie on the side. When I make it again, I think I’ll try to find a way to omit the elastic, which is the only part I’m not crazy about.
