Denn Rock aus dem schönen Shweshwe - Stoff von @karlottapink_fabrics habe ich dann eine Nummer größer zugeschnitten. Summer in Scotland 🌧 It is warmer in Melbourne this week than it has been in Scotland - so this jacket and pants have been worn on repeat! The jacket has two layers of bamboo/cotton batting quilted in between two layers of linen. Happy sewing Sunday! I have decided this is my “summer of the skirt”. When i inventoried my summer wardrobe, I realized I have made very few skirts. I am not sure exactly why? Maybe I am always looking for a challenge in the summer and seek more complicated garments? Who knows?! In any case I decided I needed to fill that void immediately! #v1961 is simply perfect. It has gorgeous fullness, flattering waist lines and I added pockets!!! Once I discovered this pattern (thanks for the recommendation @sewdesigbstudiov!) I immediately made 4 different versions. I love them all so stay tuned for the others! This version is made out of a gorgeous herringbone heavy weight linen from @mood_fabrics. I didn’t make any changes other than to add pocket to the front inseams and I accidentally misread the directions and put the zipper off center instead of in the center back. Oops! Maybe that will be my style trademark ;) I had previously made this blouse (#v1704) out of the same linen fabric and ordered more since it has such a lovely weight to it and doesn’t wrinkle as much as linen usually does. I love a good white linen outfit for summer! So cool, chic and yet comfy too! Bonus! Have a wonderful day all! The Very Pink Suit! I made a three piece set for my friend’s wedding using some dead stock Balenciaga wool nylon fabric from Mood. I used the #closetcorejasika for the blazer, #proteapants for the trousers, and #v1961 for the crop top. The blazer was an intense sew and I learned a ton about tailoring and fitting. Details for sewing nerds: I made a size 2 in the blazer and graded up a bunch in the hips. I shortened the blazer 1.5 inches overall and did a small bust adjustment. I also narrowed the lapel and shortened the sleeve. I used extra interfacing to account for the stretch in the fabric and that mostly worked! If you make the blazer, I recommend getting the Closet Core class that accompanies it because it walks you through the whole process and includes a lot of tips and tricks. Their fitting book is also very helpful. I ended up taking the darts out of the pants because they were impossible to press in this fabric, but it worked out given the stretch in the fabric. The darts in the top are a little pointy but I kinda pulled the side seam allowance in to counteract that a bit. I hacked the Vogue pattern to have a button back instead of an exposed zipper and phew that was a fitting adventure. Big thanks to @plannerphil for helping me—fitting something that closely behind your back is tricky! This project really stretched my skills and I learned a lot that I’m looking forward to applying to other projects. Usually, I’m not much of a fan of wearing skirts but I think this one may just have changed my mind. This lovely fabric, purchased from @kericraigemporium has been in my stash for quite some time, and I thought it would be a good pairing with #v1961. I have seen a few gored skirts around recently and this pattern really appealed to me as it reminded me of a few garments I wore during my teenage years. After a brief discussion with my wonderful sewing teacher Ana from @thesewingworkshop_brisbane I dove straight in. I added an extra 17cm to the lengthening line, but ended up removing 7cm from the hem length. Ana is so skilled at fitting garments and the finish of the skirt is sublime. I am absolutely thrilled with my new addition and it goes with a number of tops in my wardrobe, making it the perfect garment for both work and play. I have paired it with my store bought chambray shirt and my very cool @baredfootwear shoes. Who knew acid yellow shoes would go with so many outfits in my wardrobe?! 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 Das Schnittmuster #v1961 sieht eine Verstärkung am Rocksaum vor. Also habe ich das erste Mal Crinoline verwendet. Gefunden habe ich es in einem Laden für Tanzsportaustattung. Es gibt sie in verschiedenen Festigkeiten, hier habe ich die weichere genommen, die auch als soft boning verkauft wird. Das Einnähen ist wirklich keine große Kunst, aber der Effekt ist dafür wirklich schön. Sie sorgt für etwas Stand und einen schönen Fall des Rockes. Außerdem kann ich, quasi als Akt der angewandten Selbstliebe, verkünden, dass ich in der Zwischenzeit ziemlich gut im Einnähen von nahtverdeckten Reißverschlüssen bin. Aber ich freu mich immer noch doll, wenn es mal wieder geklappt hat. --- 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 The #v1961 pattern suggests a boning at the skirt seam. So I have used crinoline for the first time. I found it in a shop for dance sport equipment. There are various degrees of stiffness. So I decided to take the softest for this skirt, which was consistently called soft boning. It's no big deal to sew the crinoline in place, but its effect is all the greater. The skirt drapes beautifully with this support at the seam. Additionally, as an exercise of practical self love, I can proudly announce that I master the art of sewing in an invisible zipper pretty well after a long time of practice. But I am still in awe when it works another time. Today’s featured sewists are Nikki (@thesewingprincipal) and Kikki (@2craftytwinchicks) from McKinney, Texas (USA). We grew up watching our mom sew for family and friends, and our dad reupholster furniture. Our dad first taught us how to create quilt blocks from old scraps. That was his way of keeping us busy during school breaks. It wasn’t until ten years ago that we started developing a love for sewing our own clothes. We love fabric shopping and going to Joanns, where we sit at a table, go through patterns, all while discussing fabric and notions. Our time at Joanns takes us back to pattern and fabric shopping with our mom at the old Krauss Department Store on Canal Street in New Orleans. Although we are twins, we are individuals when it comes to sewing. Kikki loves to hack and add embellishments to her garments, to create a unique look; and Nikki likes to maximize her time by sewing clothes that can transition from workwear to an evening of cocktails with friends. We have been following the @SewOver50 page for awhile. We are inspired by how Sewover50 showcases the differences we share as sewists and at the same time promoting that age is just a number. This is one of the reasons that Kikki and Nikki, along with 2 like-minded sewists founded @SewrorityWear. We wanted to create an inclusive community where sewists of all ages, races, etc. could come together, through a shared bond of sewing. Sewrority Wear not only sells paraphernalia, but we also host retreats, online sewing, and various events and activities. We (Kikki and Nikki) have also been featured in @SewnMagazine and plan to offer sewing and crafting classes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area this fall. We are also launching a blog that showcases all things sewing and crafting by the end of the month...so, stay tuned. Happy sewing Tuesday! I love that when it is summer and I am not teaching, every day is potentially a sewing day! This is my fourth and final (so far!) version of #v1961. This one is out of a medium weight denim from @voguefabrics. I added white top stitching to add some interest to this version. Like the other versions I have made, this one has also been in regular rotation as it goes with everything and is so comfortable, yet feels glam.
