This fabric from @fabricandflow was an amazing choice for my wedding guest outfit. I enjoyed making it, and loved wearing it! The subtle textures and metallic rose gold are decadent and wonderful- it holds its shape and doesn’t show a single wrinkle, even after hours of wear. I would suggest taking the time to serge all your edges before sewing to prevent fraying, but otherwise it’s a lovely fabric to work with. I’m so pleased with the entire suit and look forward to wearing it to a couple of upcoming events this year. Time to share my second step to making my ‘Perfect Pants’… After having great success with my shorts I moved on to a pair of full length wool suiting trousers. I adjusted the back waistband, grading down a size to reduced the gather, and I graded down a bit more through the hips. This wool suiting has a lovely drape and it will be a great neutral for a trans-seasonal pants. Happy Sewing Sunday! I have been on hiatus for a while as I have battled an eye infection and recent basal cell removal from my face (you can probably see the silicone sheet covering my scar if you look closely in the pics). As such I haven't felt like my best self for photographs, but have been busy at work in my sewing studio! I finished this gorgeous #V1926 dress coat (View B) about 6 weeks back and have only worn it once--to my beloved sewing teacher @sewdesignstudiov 2-year anniversary party of her new sewing studio!! I think it will be in more regular rotation now that the holiday season is upon us! This coat has been a process! I made 2 muslins trying to get the fit right before cutting into this gorgeous tweed fabric from @moodfabrics. Here are the details: -I ultimately made a size 8 through the shoulder area (initially started with a 10 but that was too large) and graded out to a 10 at the waist and hips. This is a size smaller than I usually do, but there was a lot of ease in this pattern. -I removed 1/4 inch from the sleeve cap as there was too much ease there as well and it created puckering at the armscye. -During the final fitting, I took out another 1/4 inch width at the top of the back part of the sleeve grading to nothing at the elbow. -I lined the coat with Bemberg rayon. This fabric is incredibly stunning now that it is finished, but it frayed like nobody's business as soon as it was cut!! I initially brought it to Vermont in August to sew it, but quickly realized the seams would need to be serged after sewing several (that shed all over my cabin and my clothes!) and didn't finish it until I got back home. The buttons are from @voguefabrics and I had a minor panic because one broke after purchasing, but thankfully they had one more left at the store so I could finish my beautiful coat! I am REALLY pleased with how this turned out thankfully. Sometimes I put the most time into projects I wear the least. Hopefully this is not the case with this coat! COAT PATTERN REVIEW @simplicitymccallsaustralia #voguepatterns #V1926 This year I decided to create a series of coats that are fun, mood busting and visually inspiring. As soon as I saw this fabric @spotlightstores I fell in love with it and knew instantly the right pattern for it. This “Fantasy Boucle” has a cotton base with a series of overlaid threads consisting of a buttery, lemony, chenille, fine gold Lurex and a shiny, white reflective thread that almost shimmers in the light. With such a special fabric, I spent ages deciding on the lining and finally chose a glorious printed satin called “Floral 145cm Paint Print Satin” also from @spotlightstores The beautiful buttons are from @jimmybuttonau What I love about this pattern is the generous drape of the hemline which is not evident from the photo on the pattern. At the same time, the princess seams eliminates any bulk from the torso. As a petite person this means I am not overwhelmed by too much fabric but still can enjoy the “swish” of fabric as I walk. A nice touch are the side front pockets that also eliminate bulk. I wore this recently on a cold, grey day with a blustery wind. The breeze lifted the edges of my coat to show the glorious colours of the lining that is filled with a profusion of spring flowers. This coat is so beautiful to wear, it makes me smile and certainly puts a spring in my step! Well… I finally finished my denim toile for this vest. This was definitely a slow learning sew! The pattern was originally for a long coat so I had to make so many adjustments to the bust, shoulders and arm syce to get the right fit. The original pockets were so tiny they looked comical on my frame so I increased the scale and redid them as well. I have started to learn about full bust adjustments and will continue to master that sewing skill. I think there was more unpicking than sewing …BUT… I love wearing this outfit! It is comfortable and feels quite chic. In the end, I managed to attain a much better fit then any RTW vest and I am very proud of myself for working through the process. Is it perfect- nope but I love it anyway. This was preparation for a precious fabric from @fabricandflow for my wedding guest outfit.
