This is the second time i’ve made a Blouse/Robe Nekkar and then decided I didn’t actually like it much, so took it apart to make something else. I’m way, way happier with this long button-front midi skirt, #newlook6627, that I finished in October. The rayon from @blackbirdfabrics has ideal drape and weight, too. I made PANTS! They are my first finished garment for #thegreatmodulesewalong hosted by @tomkatstitcherycarmel and @carlamayfield5 . I love a high-waisted, cropped, slim-fitting trouser in a casual fabric, and I think I nailed it! Actually, finding pants like this that fit me this well in a store would be like finding a unicorn. They are a simple side-zip stretch woven trouser. I used olive stretch denim (1% spandex) from Joanns, and the pattern is #newlook6627. I made a size 14, omitted the front darts, and added an additional 1 1/2” at the waist. I added 1 1/2” to the back rise and subtracted 1” from the front rise. I subtracted 3” from the width of each leg at the hem, tapering from above. And I shortened the length by several inches (took 1” from the pattern, then turned up a giant hem). I intended to make this garment out of slubby white denim, but that fabric became a not-so-wearable muslin. If you are new to pants, and are picky about fit, I highly recommend starting with the simplest pattern possible. (Learned that the hard way.) The top is #simplicity9020 🖤 #n6627 #nl6627 #s9020

I took a break from all the dresses I’ve been making to try my hand at some trousers. Not too shabby for my first try, if I do say so myself. 😊There’s certainly room for improvement and experimentation with different fabrics, but I think this gingham print will be fun to wear this summer! I used a stretch twill from @joann_stores and the pattern is #newlookpatterns #N6627 - a very simple high waisted trouser with front and back waist darts, waist facings and an invisible side zip. No pockets or waistbands to fuss with, so they come together relatively fast and make a great beginner pattern for pants making. Happy Saturday! So I’ve finally put all my notes together on how I made these pants. This was a labor of love. After getting my challenge from @sewingbowlchallenge hosted by @theycallhim_spade and @salonmishawn . I went directly to Pinterest. (Inspo: pic 3).The wheels started turning and I started sketching (terrible sketching btw, I’m not an artist 😂) I was going to make shorts but changed my mind. I also added another challenge for myself. To use as many resources I have. Here is the info Pattern: I used #n6627 then hacked it because this was not the look I was going for. I cut the biggest size then slashed and spread it. This also made the waist wider. Attached a waist band and a channel for the elastic. For the fabric I used fabric I’ve had for over 5 years. I used this fabric to make drapes. Pockets: i used the pocket from #m7547 but supersized them. I wanted huge stand out pockets … literally. So I created 3d pockets. For the patchwork I purchased the black and white cotton from @hobbylobby. The white fabric was thrifted. But I did not want it to be just plain white so I hand painted the white fabric to create an abstract print. The pocket was lined with white cotton. The pockets took the longest to create. Belt: I did not want a regular degular D ring belt so I used this large hook D ring I got from Joanne’s. I also purchased the belting from Joanne’s. For the cinched in ankle of the pants I used strips of the same fabric. I also top stitched them. I used D-rings to create the look. Wow that was a long one and I’m sure I missed something. I put a lot of work in to these pants and I love them ! 😍 I probably won’t wear them during the summer because they are kind of on the heavier side.
