💛Sunshine Yellow Lingerie Set💛 Revived from the abandoned projects box to this cute set! (Bra details in the next post) Shorts The shorts I cut out from this left over fabric because I really wanted to try this pattern out. More of a wearable toile I suppose. I can't believe how simple the shorts were to sew! I think because it's a slippery, thin fabric I just assumed it would be difficult to sew but it wasn't at all. Even the binding around the waist was straightforward. Why do we get our heads like that?! 🤦‍♀️ One thing I would improve on next time is I would use a french seam all over! I overlocked the edges on this one which looks fine from the inside, but you can see them through the fabric on the outside because it's sheer and they look uneven so if they were frenched they would be much smaller and neater and would really feel more ✨glamorous✨. I love the openings at the sides - has such a romantic, vintage feel to it. I always say how much I love choosing the finishing touches for a project and choosing the buttons for this one was no exception. My first (#memade ) bra! My attempt was a straight size 20 per my 43” bust, but it was ridiculously huge. I then cut a 16 (my high bust is 39”) but did a full bust adjustment from B to D cup. It’s nearly perfect! I think I’ll shift the darts around some and adjust the bust apex next time. 💛Sunshine Yellow Lingerie Set💛 Bra - construction and straps I made a few simple additions/alterations to the bra top to make it more wearable for me. I wanted to wear it as an actual top when it's really hot; around the garden, maybe at the beach, under a sheer blouse...that type of thing. So I didn't want it to be see through. The yellow fabric is transparent so I added a lining layer in a white cotton (charity shop, table cloth!). The slightly more sturdy lining actually worked really well for keeping the shape of the top and cups.  The centre of the two cups is gathered but I didn't gather it as narrow as the pattern suggests and instead of having 2 lines of stitching in place either side of the centre seam (which I thought looked bad) I stitched over the gathers down the centre seam with a 3 layer stitch option I have on my machine. I did this once it was fully assembled so it goes through the outer fabric, the lining and also a short length of binding I made from left over fabric. The binding isn't bias and isn't gathered so this will stop the gathers on the top from stretching or falling out. The straps I also changed because I thought one size option wouldn't work long-term and I didn't want them to be too tight or too loose. So, I made the straps twice as long, and threaded elastic through the tube of the strap. The elastic was cut a touch shorter than they needed to be so that they comfortablely hug my shoulder (not so much that they pull the cup up!). 💛Sunshine Yellow Lingerie Set💛 Bra - closure For the closure I didn't have the exact elastic needed so I zigzag stitched two lengths of elastic together which amazingly fitted the gap in the back. I didn't read ahead and so didn't realise this would be so much on show. If I had realised, I would have made a little case for it in the same manner as the straps. I also didn't quite understand where I was supposed to stitch the eye (of the hook and eye) to so I actually sewed these to the top instead of the underside. But they're quite neatly done so I don't really mind! They were supposed to be sewn on the underneath so the stitched area isn't visible and the 'eyes' just poke through between the two layers of the back piece and the underlap - exactly like a bra closure funnily enough!  Overall, I am really pleased with this set, I think it's really cute and summery! The mystery of the missing button is solved! I made 4 covered buttons. I sewed on 2. I had 1 left. After a week of searching I found it caught under my machine! 💛Sunshine Yellow Lingerie Set💛 This was a project from my UFO box which I am still making my way through - fairly successfully I would say too! This pattern I loved even though I wasn't sure that the garments would necessarily get that much wear but I bought it in hope. The fabric I bought many many years ago, maybe 7 or 8?! I made my friend a really cute slip dress/nightie from it with purple lace trim. I'm not even sure what the fabric is but it's light and chiffony-silky so I thought it would make perfect lingerie. After I made the slip, the remaining fabric (quite a few meters!) just sat in my stash, avoiding clear outs, but with no projects in mind. Maybe then about 1 year ago I decided to make a sort of wearable toile because I just really wanted to sew this pattern and the fabric suited my needs. Have Cricut/WILL tag everything with sassy quotes from Ru Paul’s Drag Race! ✨💤 Oh, I also made these 30s tap pants (in December) complete with terrible hand buttonholes + a rolled hem with varied degrees of success! Added biro spill for some handmade charm...🙄 Satin is a slippery bitch but I’m not mad at how these turned out! 🤍 I cut them out of an old dress so the grain went out of the window along with the drape BUT I can’t wait to have another go! 🪡

Now posted on my blog! I whipped up this year 1937 bra using some cotton and lace scraps from on hand, and it is the nicest and most comfortable lingerie I could ever want!! I'm ecstatic! . . Today is my birthday, so naturally I spent the day avoiding adult responsibility and sewing my head off. Here is my first completed project of #makenine2020. New techniques I got to explore—a continuous lap, a lot of hand sewing, and practice altering— I would recommend sizing down two sizes on this pattern. I love the chance to sew something that makes me feel close to my grandmas. I can imagine them whipping out endless pairs of these in probably more creative colors than I am able to come up with. Finally took pictures of the tap pants/French knickers that I made to match my Jet Set Natural bra. 📷 I made view B of the Simplicity reprint of a 1930s pattern. They went together beautifully and I love the shaped overlay. I substituted snaps for buttons to keep from having weird lumps on my hips when wearing them under things (and because, for some reason, buttonholes still stress me out 😅). I love how light and comfy they are. Who knows, I may even put aside my disdain for slippery fabrics to make more of these 😆 Both pieces are made from shantung scraps. . . . This is the first time I’ve paired vintage fabric with a vintage pattern, and OH MY, I love it! I found this fabric at a local estate sale and I just had to buy it. Its color and texture reminded me of the upholstery fabric that was on an antique rocaille style chair at my parents house growing up. We called it the “princess chair” because it was ornate and also pink! So now I’m calling this my “princess coat”. I used another pattern that my Aunt Vicki gifted me, and I absolutely love how it fits.
