A little mini dress for easy lunch at the pool🏖️ I was very excited about making this dress but unfortunately it didn’t turn out what I had imagined - it’s a bit snug on me and the peekaboo didn’t offer any ventilation in the heath 😆 it could be all my fault 🤦‍♀️ possibly wrong fabric choice as this French Terry doesn’t stretch as well as jersey would. One thing for sure - it would look good on someone with a nice body shape, even a six pack to show off! This isn’t a favorite, but it’s a vast improvement from where it started. Last year, I made a vintage @simplicity_creative_group #s9778. I thought it looked so cute, but when I took a photo I realized “omg I’m wearing a turtleneck nightgown out in public!” I didn’t want to waste this beautiful fabric from @fabricgodmother so I did a mini- #refashion and turned it into a @deer_and_doe_patterns #ddmyosotis It’s not the greatest fabric and pattern pairing (this is a lightweight rayon challis which I think is too light for this style), but I’m excited to have something wear-to-work-worthy. This is the first time I refashioned an old make into a new one, and I loved it! I found it really satisfying to problem solve with limited fabric and end up with something totally transformed. Wear the damn dress 🩷❤️ I made this colour block @mimigstyle @simplicitymccallsuk #S9778 last year and it's the first time I'd worn something tight in years after having my third baby.. (This post contains body image chat) Right...we're about to get deep sorry!! Poor body image is something I've dealt with on a deep level since my teens and this year I've desperately been trying to heal and get off this diet culture hamster wheel. I started trying to learn to sew when I was 16 so I could feel good in my clothes as a plus size teen. Fast forward 14 years and sewing is pretty much my entire personality, the ability to create clothes I want and that fit is such a dream. That teenage girl would be so proud! The beauty of sewing and designing is being able to express yourself through clothes. I love seeing how everyone's unique style is shown within their makes. I made this dress last year, posted a snippet of it in a reel but no photos because I was so conscious of how I looked in these camera images. This pic popped up recently and I finally felt confident enough to share on YT to be immediately knocked down with a 'this doesn't flatter your body' type comment. Ouch!! So in a bid to not let that person knock me back into a negative body image space, I'm finally sharing the photo of this dress to my grid! Because IMO it doesn't matter what shape the garment is, if it's red and pink it's FLATTERING 🩷❤️ If you love something, wear it. If something makes you feel good when you wear it, that's flattering. And if it's handmade that's especially flattering! Sewing is a superpower! It's about creativity NOT about our bodies. Fabric is a ribbed jersey from @newcrafthouse the quality is amazing 😍

This weekend really owes me nothing! When I pulled this hot number off my sewing machine, I couldn’t rock it fast enough! This is Simplicity’s #s9778. I got the fabric on clearance earlier this year from Joann Fabrics. I’m not convinced that this is faux leather…but what else could it be?!
