One last post about our costumes that I decided to make super last minute! @joann_stores always saves the day when I get my last min ideas! I used @simplicity_creative_group #S8722 , black twill, turquoise ribbon and my @cricut for all the decals 🏁🖤 I was SO confident believing I could sew these super quick 😅 I actually doing amazing once I realized what “hook and loop” was… Until I got to sewing to placket FOR the Velcro. I was so mad that I couldn’t understand how to sew it correctly. I even threw the entire pattern away and gave up on the idea and told Caleb we’re not dressing up 😂 I read the instructions out loud to @kindofklaasy and suddenly it clicked and I moved on as if I wasn’t on the verge on a breakdown 😁 Other than almost losing it over the velcro placket, this pattern was wildly simple! I had to take them in a bit for our desired look, I made XS for me and took it in about 1.5” on each side and shortened the torso (as I always do) and made M for Caleb took the sides in 2” and lengthened the torso! And added ribbon to the sides. It’s not over. I was in the final stretch. The suits were sewn, the decals were designed, cut and ready to be ironed but they weren’t sticking and I instantly knew what I did wrong. I cut vinyl (for cups) instead of iron on. There’s something about last minute makes, the process is never smooth. Finally an hour before Halloween, our suits were finished! Was it worth it? Yes, because we get to wear our suits for every race and they’re more than just a one day wear! Also no, because all of 4 dads recognized who we were and everyone else just called us race car drivers 😂

Ready for the weekend 💪 After all the dresses, I’ve been wanting to sew a few more utilitarian pieces for my wardrobe. Dresses are nice and everything, but a lot of the time I just want something less fussy. I feel like I’ve nailed the brief with this flight suit with allllllll of the pockets. And then a few more pockets - I added two patch pockets to the back also 🙃 I’m so ready for anything! Pattern was a costume pattern. Yes! Can you believe it. I originally wanted to make the hooded version but went with the collar in the end. I picked up this cotton drill remnant from @drapersfabrics and at first the red was a little too much for me, so I bought a bottle of bleach. A little late here but we had some fun escapades on Halloween! I made this pink jumpsuit from simplicity 8722, 3d printed the mask, and made the belt out of webbing. The green track suit is not show accurate but was cheap from Amazon and I ironed the numbers on. This idea came to us at the last minute and was all made in about 3 days!! Happy Halloween from F1 driver Lewis Hamilton! O is currently using a knee scooter due to a leg injury and he got to drive it extra fast last night!! I made his costume out of black sweatshirt fabric and rib knit from my stash, using #S8722 as the base. I sized down, adjusted for height and fit, for a super cozy costume. Check it out: baby’s first jumpsuit. 100% influenced by @suechinglascelles and her version of #s8722 (a Simplicity costume jumpsuit pattern). Made in @supercheapfabrics checked cotton drill fabric which was a pleasure to sew with. I like how it’s turned out, especially my sneaky 6 pattern matched pockets and bias cut yoke. However, I didn’t love how it sat over my bust and bum (it’s a uni sex pattern so very straight all over). Lucky it’s totally “Mum__Makes” style and it looks banging on her!! There might be another one in the works soon. My only doozy with this pattern was the collar. In hindsight, it may have been a good idea to practice attaching a collar (a first for me) before doing it on the actual jumpsuit but oh well!! Live and learn.

Layering up even though it’s almost the end of winter. I was so inspired after seeing peoples styling of the @hello_darling_co Nati Cozy Dress. I made this dress by drafting a literal rectangle of @darncheapfabrics boiled wool and some shaping for pockets. I was so unsure if I was happy with the end product, but a little accessorising and layering changes a look and I’m loving this combo (layered over #s8722 jumpsuit).
