I know it’s impossible to see because the jungle camouflage is SO EFFECTIVE but this is a actually a picture of my nephew wearing a handmade jungle shirt button-up while inspecting a bridge for trolls. I gave it to him without fanfare because no 9 year old should have to fake excitement for a button-up shirt, but a few days later the review was in: “this shirt actually looks like it’s from a GIFT SHOP in HAWAII” which is obviously very high praise. . Glad to put the leftover fabric from my own jungle button-up to good use (I bought way too much because I didn’t trust I was reading the pattern right). Do you do have a good use for your scraps and spare bits? I can’t bear to throw them out — make masks? Patch clothes? Embroidery hangings? Pillow stuffing? . Sewing planning 🙈 I have felt a bit overwhelmed with plans, too many patterns and bundles of fabric sitting about with no plan. I like to plan! So here are my sewing plans/ musings. I know for sure I want to make the @simplicitymccallsuk #m7969 with this lush floral fabric. I am making matching #m6972 shirts for my husband and son from this Avengers cotton fabric. Then I get unsure… have had the amazing cowboy fabric for ages and originally it was going to be a Lyra but that did not go to plan. I love it so much I want something I’ll wear. My next plan was the @peppermintmagazine #bowdendress but I am also considering the @deer_and_doe_patterns #myosotisdress (help!) My other decision is what blouses to make from this @heysewsister.co.uk floral Viscose crepe and the @ladymcelroyfabrics remnant I bought. I have the #paddingtontop from @peppermintmagazine and was admiring the New Look #n6707 too. I also have the #sewingerin dungarees pattern and got a beautiful pinafore dress pattern in @lovesewingmag this week too. I hate decisions, what would you do? I made the shirt on the left 4 years ago for my husband, and this month I made another for his brother. It is McCall's #M6972 made from a Timeless Treasures quilting cotton. During the Easter holidays we went to a wedding and my boy decided he wanted me to make him some shorts and a shirt to wear, queue panic buying a pattern and sewing three kids outfits in 5 days! It was worth it though and he's already worn them since. I used Mcalls M6972 which is both elastic waist shorts and a shirt. He is 7 but his measurements were the size 3-4, the shorts are a good fit, but the shirt is only going to last for maybe the summer! Best of all they are both from stash fabrics! I snagged a couple of delightfully perfect lemon tablecloths last summer and have been holding onto them since, waiting for just the right project to use them. Earlier this year, when Andy suggested we have a family get-together this summer, I knew I had to repurpose them for this event. ▪️ This is my third #frankendress: the bodice was from #M8091 and the skirt was from #M7351 view D. Only slight modifications were done - I made the shoulder straps narrower and the length adjustable with a couple of lingerie rings and sliders, and lined the bodice with some lightweight cotton from my stash. The tablecloths had adorable scalloped edges, so I cut and gathered them to add a 5” ruffle to my skirt hem. ▪️ With the remaining fabric, I was able to whip up a pair of matching shorts for Andy at his request (he loves coordinating looks) using #M6972 view B. #memade2022 emmet was watching me finish a shirt for beau a few weeks back and asked if I would make him a shirt. So I promptly took him to the fabric shop where he did a more than amazing job styling his shirt. Pattern is #m6972 . I am a little bummed as this is the largest size the pattern comes in. It’s really fun to be married to me 👯 Eli and Eric were banished to the couch during dinner before @jesslovesthreads and Eric’s wedding, where they obviously talked about being married to women who sew. It was there that Eli told Eric I’d never made him anything and Eric asked what I was doing. So, not to be outdone, I made Eli a shirt for his birthday and then made myself a matching shirt because I’m very chill all of the time. Eli got a straight size, mostly because I am lazy and didn’t want to make adjustments but he has a straight size body so it all worked out. I graded sizes on the patina because I convinced myself this shirt would not have enough ease with my pump on my hip after my wearable toile but now I think I was wrong because this is pretty big. Which I generally like but I pictured this tucked into pants and skirts at work and I’m not so sure that’s the look anymore. Body dysmorphia strikes again, you bastard. Matchy festy fits - and my first sewing projects since I was in my early teens! I got a sewing machine for Xmas and had a week to make something for myself before the festival, then Steve wanted something too so this is what we ended up with! Steve’s set is @mccallpatterncompany #M6972 - this set is super boxy but I did learn how to do a collar! My dress I made up as I went along (ambitious for my first sewing project in 20 years). The dress has a halter neck with a low back, it gaped at the side of the bust so I added a tie across the back and it worked out ok. Fabric is a cute printed cotton from @spotlightstores 🌴

Sarong study #2. An upcycled Thai sarong that would have otherwise sat folded and tucked away in my mom’s closet. This time I used the @mccallpatterncompany #M6972 for the boxy design. I wanted to incorporate the bottom detail of the sarong in the buttonbands, but because of limited yardage (the sarongs are around 2 meters), a perfect pattern match couldn’t be achieved.
