Day 3’s theme of #Uncelebration2025 was the Battle of Hogwarts, and we were Professor McGonagall and Seamus Finnegan. The best part of Uncelebration is seeing friends we’ve met over the years and marveling at their cosplays. Here are a few of them, including two of the Hogwarts castle stone statues come to life, amazingly created by @cows3500. I also realized I didn’t get enough photos of my hubby and I together, but isn’t that typical? It was a days-long battle to self-draft the sleeves and then modify the Simplicity 8723 Hogwarts House Robes pattern for this Professor McGonagall cosplay. Every few years I go all out on making costumes for Halloween. This year it was the boys’ turn! . . The scarf pattern is from the Harry Potter Knitting Magic book The yarn is Lion Brand Basic Stitch and Lion Brand Heartland . The robes are made with Simplicity 8723 and some grey mystery blend fabric I dyed to (almost) black. The boys had a great time! Harry Potter comes to life using Simplicity 8723. I made View B in a size small and the instructions were easy to follow. Everything was going great until I made a seam allowance error and it mess up the rest of the project. Bummed but there was no way to fix it. The hood should rest a different way and the length should be longer. However, for my first attempt, it was still kinda cool! I would like to make it again and really take my time with it. I used Kona black cotton and Symphony bright yellow for the Hufflepuff house colors, a frog closure, and an iron on crest patch. I’m a #selfishsewist for the most part, but on our trip to Universal last month my 11 year old asked if I could make robes. How do you say no?! We’ve had some planning chats—he’d like them to be soft, like a hoodie, with a secret wand pocket, and blue like Ravenclaw. So I’m going off recommended fabric choices of the pattern and we have black sweatshirt fleece. I’d order dark blue cotton jersey but he declared it too dark and by stoke of luck we found a #walmartprecutfabric that’s a light navy (I guess? Not royal blue, not navy either). It’s not as nice, definitely a poly jersey that pilled on its maiden washing machine trip, but he likes the color. I’m drafting a sort of welt wand pocket to go inside the facing, so the only visible part would be the opening (me was very opposed to seeing pocket outline stitches, so a patch pocket was out of the question.
