I'm delighted with the grey stripes and the overall comfy summer vibes. I just love a good camp shirt. Plus, this one has a yoke and I was able to play around with stripes on the back. So fun! I’ve been sewing what seems to be a lot of pink lately and I hate to admit it but I like this lighter pink business color on me. This is #b6924 by @palmerpletsch it’s a great pattern full of not only fitting tips but also little tricks on how to get pointy collars and how to set a cuff on a sleeve flat. I highly recommend it. I can see making a few more. I like the pattern so much I made a sew along, it’s a lengthy one because I used all those little tricks they talked about in the pattern. “A perfect collar every time” - bold claims Helen! We shall see… Attaching the collar is the next step, I’ve finished the #s8389 trousers and have the body of the shirt done. The pockets are still just basted on. I don’t have a great track record of attaching them straight so I figured I’d wait until I could see what it looked like on before committing. Predictably, given what I’m sewing, it’s grey and wet today ☔️. Told myself I would post more, especially since it's #memadeeveryday around here and it's not about looking fancy (well sometimes it is) but about being comfortable and wearing the clothes you are making. Plus it's looking like today might be the last day I can wear this outfit. My top is a wearable muslin for #B6924 which is a pattern from the peeps @palmerpletsch (and it's a really good one) along with my trusty #tbdanishorts from @truebias which I have worn to death and they are still kicking and getting the job done. Finished my Irish linen camp shirt with vintage Pacific buttons. I added dark blue lawn tabs on the sleeves, copying the detail from a RTW shirt of my husband's. I took in the sides, but it's still a generous cut, even for a camp shirt. I lined the bias yoke with white lawn, cut on grain, for stability. The fabric sewed and pressed beautifully. I’m starting on a new project using Simplicity 8389, Butterick 6924 and some amazing viscose fabric. I have 3m of the fabric which I don’t think is enough for my initial vision of a Christine Redfern-esque long sleeve, long trouser affair (I’ve recently re-read Evil Under the Sun). I’m going for cropped trousers and a short sleeve shirt which I think will be less overwhelming! I’ll decide on pockets when I see what I’ve got left. I’m pretty sure the finished waist measurements on the Butterick pattern are wrong (maybe 10” out) and after a bit of deliberation I’m just going with a straight size 10. About the only pattern alteration they don’t talk you through is for narrow shoulders (my favourite 😭) probably because it’s too tricky with the way the yoke is, so I decided it was a sign not to over complicate things. I’m hoping a 14 in the trousers will work 🤞🏻. The question is will I get this done before summer is over? #b6924 #s8389 #butterickpatterns #simplicitypatterns #sewover40

All done in plenty of time for #sewnwithbig5aug And the sun has come out ☀️ The #b6924 shirt went smoothly (but despite my best efforts the pockets aren’t level 🤫). I was mildly worried that I’d essentially made pyjamas but I think they fall the right side of that. They are very floaty and will be great if hot weather comes this way again. The only alterations I made were to add 1/2” to the back rise on the trousers (size 14) and hemming them an inch shorter. I sized down on the shirt (to a 10) rather than making any alterations. Everything fits as I wanted but I think I’d add a little more to the rise all round if I were to make the trousers #s8389 again. #butterickpatterns #simplicitypatterns #sewover40 #ukteacherswhosew #janomemakes
