Well I was ready for the first day of short-sleeve weather ☀️ yesterday - with my hacked vintage vogue #v1878 #vogue1878. I‘ve recently seen this style of tie top from @puff_and_pencil and from @the.sewcialite (and maybe from others I don‘t recall) and wanted to give it a try. It‘s cute, it’s cool, I like it, although I might go back to remove some extra fabric/volume from armcycle in the back. This volume was there for my previous two versions of this pattern but only with this fabric it is so visible. The fabric is the glorious Tottorri Cross cotton seersucker from @merchantandmills and I bought it from @atelier_goldfaden. I needed 80cm from each color (and will have enough to make some pouches maybe.. if I can ever get myself to sew those). I‘ve been caressing this fabric in the shop many times before I finally broke my fabric buying ban to get some in March. Any top with a v-neck can be hacked to add ties, the ties are just sandwiched between the outer layer and the facing. Sewing with silk is always an experience, this one started out very good („I can handle this, I know the tricks!“) but somewhere in the middle the unwillingness of the fabric to stay straight and underneath the needle broke my initial confidence. I‘m happy with the end product, it‘s a cute little shiny blouse with a nice low neckline (but not too low), and I can ignore that none of the seams are super straight and that the collar isn‘t super even. My tipps for sewing with slippery silks that do not press well (some I knew before, some I learned during this project and some were recommended by you after I asked in my stories): - cut single layer with a rotary cutter - pin, pin, pin (like every cm).. or baste - use a microtex 60 needle and (if you have one) a walking foot - put (baking or another thin) paper underneath. I only did this at the beginning of every seam so my machine wouldn‘t eat the fabric, but some recommended I should do it for the whole seam. How my new cotton-silk shirt (or is this a blouse?) looks after I got rained on several times - crumbled but still cute?! The top is the result my (periodically reoccurring) resolution to make better use of the left-overs of fabrics I love. This fine silk-cotton fabric from @atelier_to_naniiro_textile (bought from @atelier_goldfaden where it‘s now sold out, but she has new cotton-silks that are tempting) certainly is one of my favorite fabrics ever. I had very little left and had to piece the back of the shirt and add another fabric - silk organza it was, swipe for the see-through back surprise. Pattern is vintage vogue #v1878 which I have made before in the version with the collar. I hunted the pattern down on ebay after I saw it in @jasikaistrycurious stories, she refers to the shirts she made from the pattern as „dad shirts“ I think. I bought size 10 which is too small for me (which I didn‘t check beforehand) - well actually the size is ok but I‘d prefer it a little bit more oversized. And the neckline could be a little lower for that 70ties look you can see on the cover of the pattern, but I didn‘t adjust it for #sewingtall other than lowering the armhole by 1.5cm. And I did a 1cm forward shoulder adjustment, which was a good decision. Pants are #trendschnittNo60 by @trendschnitt, fabric ramie from @glaser_naehcenter Edited to say: didn‘t make button holes, just sewed on the buttons with my machine through all layers.
