Part 2 of my wonderful weekend was the Dressmaker’s Ball in Leicester organised by @craftysewandso I can’t tell you how inspiring and motivational this event is - you meet the most lovely makers who have created all these beautiful pieces. An evening of celebrating our work and sharing our passion for sewing. And the next day there’s a breakfast/brunch which goes on for hours as we’re all so busy exchanging details and tips and pattern numbers too 😁 Pictured are some of my favourite outfits from the night and the lovely people I know. (& the obligatory stair pics of course 🤣) A shout out to @vintageameliauk 😘 as I found the perfect headpiece on her stall at Bletchley Park earlier that day to go with my dress.💙(swipe to last pic) I made this dress earlier this year but was waiting for a good “do” - I used the bodice of #s9465 which I adapted with an overlay of lace over duchess satin and a stand up collar. Merchant and Mills linen x Donny shirt hack is a dreamy combo. Checkered fabric is meant for playing with fabric direction. The hacks are pocket from #s9465, addition of sleeve cuffs cut on the bias and back yoke cut on the bias. ✂️The seams including armholes are French seamed. The yoke is totally burritoed, including the shoulder seam. 🪡I had problems deciding on the pocket position. The bias had a lot of stretch in the linen, so was tricky. I covered up one of the dark blue checks with the pocket. Checks are fun but like circles or large flowers can look funny in the wrong place. A lack of symmetry can also be off putting so cutting out was done as a single layer so I could see what the finished result would look like. My pants were the result of a mistake- the denim was too heavy weight for the pattern but as pants they perfectly keep their wide-leg pant shape, helped along with the 4 inch deep faced hem. They’ve had so much wear since I hacked them into pants.
