When I was asked to recreate the outfits I jumped at the chance because I knew it was going to be insanely fun to create and the results would be just as fun and these two stunners did not disappoint! The more often I post this fabric, the more likely I am to keep working on this project haha! 💚 So here's part one of making a deep green suit for my husband! I'm using Simplicity pattern #s8962 for the blazer and #s9043 for the pants. After adjusting the pattern pieces to fit, I went ahead and cut out the dozens and dozens of pieces. Fingers crossed the suit will be ready for the early fall weddings we are invited to! 🧵

Some details of the blazer I made from @kaelangrafton ✨ . This pattern has 24 different pattern pieces 😱 and I cut all the outer pieces in a single layer so that I could pattern match as much as possible. The instructions aren't great in terms of how to add structure - there is some advice for interfacing the front and back body, but I also interfaced the top of the sleeves, and added sleeve heads as well as shoulder pads. . I struggled a bit with the back vent and I'm not entirely happy with the way it hangs, but it's not terrible. The inside welt pockets were also quite tricky because the outer fabric is much heavier than the lining - I think it might have been better to use lining fabric for the welts. And I didn't like that closing up the outer and lining is done by handstitching the lining sleeve heads to the lining body - I would have preferred to bag it out through the lining side seam, but I couldn't figure out how to do it that way with the way the sleeve cuffs are attached. . Fabric: Stretch Cotton Twill from @moodfabric Pattern: Simplicity 8962 Men's Casual Sportcoat for the top. Self-drafted pant pattern for the bottoms. Modifications: went with a color-blocking scheme that would really provide a pop to the suit. Also decided against true lapels, reinforcing the casual look of the blazer. Kicking off ‘22 with a complex project! I’ve had the pattern pieces cut for at least a couple of years, but never got to cut the fabric. This is the year and I am enjoying every second of it! The weather wasn’t on our side this weekend 🍂🍂🌬☔️. But I got to pick up a men’s blazer (#s8962) muslin that I had started back when there was no virus around. I tested the fit and it was almost spot on! I only had to lengthen the sleeves around an inch. I’m ready to cut on my fabric!!!

Do others out there struggle this much with sleeve cap ease? I've made 2 toiles, reduced the ease by 1.25in in the pattern, held my finger behind the foot when sewing my easing stitches, and I still don't foresee getting this set without puckers.
