Starting the week with my new favorite dress💙 I was graciously gifted this fabric as part of the #minervabrandambassdor program and I love it . As soon as I saw this print I knew I wanted to make the new MimiG spring release Simplicity 9917. I made view B which is the ankle length version with a fitted 7 panel bodice. It has spaghetti straps with bra slides and rings for adjustment. The fabric matching on this bodice took some time but I think it was well worth it to showcase this gorgeous print. The skirt portion has 6 gathered panels and inseam side pockets. I also made a covered belt for a nice custom detail. This was just the perfect pairing of fabric and pattern . This viscose linen has the perfect weight and drape for this voluminous skirt. I can’t wait for the weather to change here so I can wear it out. This dress will look great in sandals too for a more casual look. Had the most amazing time at the Henley Festival in a dress I made myself! 🎉✨ I knew I had to create something special, so after some research, I found the S9917 pattern, which was perfect for what I had in mind. A few test runs later, I decided to tweak the pattern by raising the waist by 2cm and adding a sweetheart neckline for a more flattering fit. Finding the right fabric was the next step, and I was thrilled to discover this gorgeous silky satin material from @minervadotcom It came together beautifully, and I couldn’t have been happier with the final result. Wearing a dress that I made from start to finish was such a rewarding experience. It’s not a pattern I usually make, so it was fun to try something new. Today’s look is a dress I am so excited to share...⁣ ⁣ I bought a denim Tibi dress that I tried on in New York this spring and fell in love with. It’s been in heavy rotation because it’s easy but makes me feel dressed up and it’s beautifully made of a soft, Japanese cotton that’s just dreamy.⁣ ⁣ I’ve had this camouflage washed cotton twill for 3 years, patiently waiting in my stash for the right project... I wanted to recreate the Tibi bodice and straps and use a soft cotton twill to create the friction between the femininity of a dress with the camo print. ⁣ ⁣ When I saw @mimigstyle pattern #S9917 I knew I was in business. I just wanted to give the dress a less formal feeling and focus on the ease. However, I only had 3 yards of fabric and this calls for more than 5 yards! Ok design challenge! ⁣ ⁣ This is a View B with a handful of mods but nothing scary:⁣ ⁣ - Instead of cutting my normal size I looked at the finished measurements and cut a 12 in the bodice and an 8 in the skirt. The skirt is gathered anyway so matching it to the bodice was no different than if I had cut the 12.⁣ ⁣ - I shortened the bodice⁣ ⁣ - Instead of cutting 2 side panels (the skirt has 7 pieces!), I traced off the pattern piece and split it into two pieces and then added back the seam allowance. This helped me reduce the fullness of the dress but keep the pockets. My dress has 5 panels (the back is 2 pieces). I also had to draft a new hem facing for the side panels since they were smaller now.⁣ ⁣ - Instead of skinny straps I made wide straps in 2 parts, attaching them with brown corozo buttons like the Tibi dress⁣ ⁣ - I skipped the belt!⁣ ⁣ My 1st ever attempt at a lapped zipper in the back definitely isn’t pretty but IDGAF!
