I made a blazer! This was a UFO (unfinished object) from this spring in my sewing room that just needed a hem, top stitching, a single buttonhole and button, and a press to be complete. I just completed a stressful client project, so I thought I’d reward myself with a finished garment for me! The McCall's & Simplicity Group pattern #s8844 from the Threads line of Simplicity patterns is an unlined, semi-fitted, single-button style blazer with patch pockets and sleeve variations. I made view A that has a gathered sleeve head and straight sleeves. I made the interior seams with a Hong Kong seam finish using red bias tape. I really like the shape of this jacket, and the instructions were well written, I just wish the pattern came with instructions on making it fully lined. A lining would make it into a much nicer garment in my opinion, and it’s not all that difficult to do. I suppose I could make a pattern modification, draft and add my own lining if I would make this again. I might just do that as it means more practice, trial and error, and learning for me, plus another blazer! Although I like my new blazer, and will definitely wear it, I feel it’s just ok for a casual look, and I’m treating this as a wearable mock-up and practice for more blazers and tailored garments. I admit that this is very similar to a jacket I made a couple of years ago, wore a lot, but left on a train / lost about 6 months ago. So I made it again! But better. With beautiful details 🤩 because I know this one is instantly iconic! I even wore it to a work event yesterday, hence it is slightly creases after over 4 hours on train and 8 hours working! The pattern is @simplicitymccallsuk #s8844 I used view B (non puffed) sleeves but lengthened them to view A length. Graded between 12/14 in C. Fabric is this gorgeous cotton deadstock I bought ages ago from @northernmonkeymakes

3️⃣8️⃣ Dull grey suit jacket 😂 I loved my last #simplicitypatterns #s8844 so much that I had to make another. I resisted the temptation to go with a patterned fabric for now, and grudgingly cut into some of my last @northernmonkeymakes #stetchlinen I sized down to a 10/12 to compensate for the stretch and it is on the snug side. I made the shorter sleeved version last time and hadn’t quite clocked the puff sleeves in this one. I’ve forgiven myself on this occasion because it probably needed a slightly feminine detail. I may add shoulder pads but think I’ll stick to the normal sleeve in future. Also note to self: next time measure the button hole placing correctly- forgot to allow for seam allowance on pattern piece so it ended 5/8” too high 🤦🏻‍♀️

We are in the Highlands and Islands hence the horns 🐮 An actual kiddy free night, chance to wear my newly finished blazer. This is the 4th time I’ve made this patterns and I absolutely love every one. This is the quarter length version in a fabric of unknown composition (very stretchy down the grain, quite stiff across the grain). I found this fabric a little challenging to sew but for £3pm x2 m from the @bm_fabrics market stall in Leeds I have myself a staple jacket in those fabulous colour! 2️⃣7️⃣ My first stab at making a blazer and it was a real test of my skills. It’s an unlined jacket which I think I will be able to wear in the warmer weather and it’s more comfortable than I imagined. Love the colour! I used a cotton pique fabric which was a bargain - deadstock from @northernmonkeymakes so I didn’t mind too much if I messed it up but also would make a wearable piece if I didn’t. I made #simplicitypatterns #s8844 view B. Graded from 12 to 14 below the waist and cut cup size C. Only addition to instruct was that I hand sewed the entire front facing down. Fabric: I bought from @the.sewing.studio a month ago or so. It is a polyester suiting . It’s a little on the thinner side. This was a great toile for the blazer I want to make from a 100% silk fabric I bought from mood in 2014 or 2015. Happy new year !! I’m jumping on the #make9 bandwagon this year, although I have hundreds of planned projects always swimming around my brain, hopefully I can get these done! I’m not holding myself to the original patterns / fabric choices, it’s more the function to be fulfilled, but some inspiration. 1) a floaty summer dress. I know this #simplicity8014 works well for me in viscose so these seem like a good choice 2) a swimming costume. It might be one of two pieces but must be shorts. I love the ruching and miriad of options on the #radpatterns #firstcrushswimsuit and I already have this pattern. Fabric to be purchased! 3) a brocade dress. This is definitely the fabric I bought from #samueltaylorsleeds and probably view D of the #v9239 4) I’m making my hubby some pjs - will probably use the free #ellieandmac pattern. Woven trousers and knit top. 5) strappy summer dress - I’m thinking view c of the #s9742 - possibly in batik .. 6) jeans. Yet to decide. Fabric yet to be bought! 7) tailored work trousers in this stretch grey linen from #northernmonkeymakes to match my suit jacket. Maybe #s8056, need to toile these first. 8) boys shirt in this gorgeous train fabric. I don’t have the pattern yet but will got for something like the #wavesandwild sunset shirt 9) velvet jacket using tried and tested #s8844 and black herringbone velvet - this has been on my to do list most of 2023! 💗 Happy Friyay! Today’s post features my long overdue Tailored Blazer using Simplicity 8844 (#S8844). I started this blazer back in October, put it aside in November and December to do other projects and finally decided to finish it this month. I’ll admit this is a time-consuming blazer if you are tailoring it, so be sure to allow a good month if you plan on tailoring this jacket. This jacket is an unlined jacket with no lining, but because I wanted it lined, I did all the buildout to make that happen. Floral Stretch Knit Jacket I read the Knit Blazer article in @threadsmagazine, Spring 2023 issue. I have owned a stretch knit blazer in the past and knew they were fabulous for travel. Once I saw this floral knit twill at @stylemakerfabrics , I had to make this. Per the article, I underlined the fabric. I finished all the seams with rayon seam binding.
