I am so happy to say that I made another pair for structured pants! This is Simplicity #s8701 and I made them from a nice chocolate brown needle corduroy from @mandlfabricsanaheim I added 1.5” to the back curve and added pockets to the back as well as the ones in the front. I chose to angle the bottom corners of the pockets as I like that look better than squared. I also slimmed the leg from the hip down ever so slightly and love the result. The zip fly went in very well and I’m gaining confidence for making more. I actually cut out a jeans pair and have slimmed the leg even more for a straight leg look. My first pair of structured pants! They quickly became my favorite pair of pants and now I wear them all the time. I’ve been excited to make more pairs ever since I finished this one, so that’s my mission this coming week. 〰 The pants are #s8701 and made with natural denim I picked up at a secondhand art supply place. For this pattern I made them my size and they were GIGANTIC, practically falling off me, so I ended up taking in about an inch on both side seams. I’d recommend going a size or two down if you make these. I was aiming for a high waisted, wide leg, sort of cropped pant. I did heighten the waist about an inch. And I made the back pockets bigger than the pattern called for. I’ll be taking better notes as I make my next pairs this week 📝

One of my tried and true patterns 👌 I think this is the fourth time that I've sewn up Simplicity 8701. But you know...once you find a trousers/pants pattern that works for your body shape and you've put in the hours perfecting the fit around your hips, waist and crotch curve then hold onto that and make it again and again. It's easy to tweak the design with pocket shapes, topstitching, fabric choices, moving the zip to the side, etc. etc. Ooh, by the way, this fabric is a luxe velvety corduroy from @croftmill. These are the bees knees lol!! I’m so so love with these overalls! I’m so happy how they came out together! I’m especially happy with the yellow topstitching that matches the bees! It’s been a minute since my last post. My sewjo was gone gone. I was sewing but nothing felt right once I set my hands to it. The WIP/alterations pile grew, when I didn’t just throw it away. Throw in a bad auto-immune month and I decided to sit my ass down somewhere for a while. Nothing ever seems as important or pressing when your body wants you to slow down. Once I got back at it, I found myself dreaming of Fall already and made another matching set that would serve as a pre-fall transitional look. Guess what I did today? Hint: it involved a camera 📷 Is it weird that thanks to an IG influencer I have wanted a pair of green wide leg pants for 3 years? And thanks to @wzrdreams these are the best fitting pair of pants I have ever sewn. I was having trouble with the crotch curve essentially cutting me in two when I sat down. She suggested extending the hook on the front pattern piece and it worked like a charm. No more 🌮 (sorry for the visual) And I just wanted to add that @alexdaviesliving was correct when she sang “There’s nothing quite like the feeling of sewing your own pants!” 😂 The pattern is #s8701 with @annaallenclothing sailor pockets from her blog. At the start of summer, I convinced myself I needed a slouchy pair of denim jeans. But summer was fleeting - how are we already at the end of April and thinking about the changing season!? Here are those jeans, made at the end of 2023. Influenced by @sewitcurly - I couldn’t resist those front welt pockets! I used a basic pattern, Simplicity #s8701 then added the pockets and belt loops. Pants fitting is tough - and something really tricky to do on your own body. I often use the timer on my camera to take images to see if things are sitting as they should be from multiple angles. This denim has no stretch, so it was important I allowed enough ease for me to be comfortable… I need to be able to sit and move! And finally - that deep hem! Something I have never been able to purchase in RTW! Okay I can honestly say I really love these pants! They are so so comfortable and I can run after my son so that’s a big plus!! I made a straight size 12 of the patterns. The one modification I made to the pattern was taking in the side seams by 3/8 in. There are only back darts so I didn’t want make changes to the front. I also had to do a 6 inch hem because of my height. My height also effected the rise of the actual pattern. The original pattern has smaller rise and hits one inch below the natural waistline. For me it hits at the waistline. So it is something that would be modified depending on the person. For the top it’s really simple to make. I made a medium because I was in between sizes but next I’ll probably size down for a tighter fit. Overall it’s so cute but the fabric is a little see through!! Both of these are super cute and I’ll definitely make more of both. It’s windcheater weather! It’s been so cold I’m happy to add this make to my wardrobe. It’s comfy and pretty. When this French terry arrived from @neridahansenfabrics I gasped at how beautiful the print by Michael Black was. I jumped online and purchased some more in the linen cotton asap 😍 The pattern is fairly quick to sew up on the overlocker. I don’t sew many knits so getting the gathers through the overlocker filled me with proper fear of losing my fingers. Living on the edge 😂 like anything that feels challenging: just go slow. Happy Sunday friends! Cannot believe the long weekend is coming to an end. Last week I sewed my first jeans, Simplicity 8701. I was rather nervous to tackle jeans so started with this wide legged 70’s inspired jeans. Made some length adjustments to crotch and leg length to better accommodate my 5’ 2 inch height. They came out fairly well for the first go at it but will be slimming the legs some for the next pair. Teamed the jeans with a Simplicity 8982 in a stretch corduroy top for a casual outfit. 👖 I made a pair of jeans! I just can’t believe it! It feels like such an accomplishment to have made a pair of jeans. I have been trying to get up the courage to make jeans for almost a whole year now. I love wearing jeans but have been very unsure of my sewing skills to jump into making a pair. Then I had an epiphany “what happens if they go wrong? I’ll just learn from mistakes and start over. I can do this!” And just like that I made a plan. I used Simplicity #s8701 as a starting point as I had just finished them in a corduroy. Next I found some super stretchy denim at @mandlfabricsanaheim that would be a little more forgiving with the fit. Finally, I chose to slim the leg a bit for a closer fit. Once I started making them, I just couldn’t stop! I love the slow process of top stitching and the cute patch pockets. I included a little @sarahhearts label on the back pocket to show my appreciation for jeans. And voila, they are finished and being worn every week! Thank you to @sewyourview for making this month #jeanuary2025 which helped give me that little push I needed. ☺️ I now have the confidence to tackle a more involved pair and the mindset to just go for it! #memademay2024 I am excited to participate in Me Made May thus year. I am trying to wear more of my me made. I did nit get a photo yesterday but I am just gonna participate when I can. Pants are a favorite pattern Simplicity 8701. I have made the pattern 6 times. This is my denim version. The shirt was a freebie from a thrift store. When I showed the frayed seams they gave it to me. I spent a good amount of time on repairs yesterday. It is a rayon a vintage ALFRED DUNNER in a rayon fabric. I removed the shoulder pads, resewed part of the collar where it was fraying, put a bias band to cover fraying shoulder seams, and fixed a side seam. I got it because I love the fabric. Don’t you just love it when you have the most perfect sewing experience and everything seems to go right . . . well this folks was NOT one of those makes! It seemed like every seam I sewed, I had to unpick, and then to top it all off I managed to burn a hole in the front of the bodice so had to recut and sew that too 😞 The pattern I used was a vintage pattern from @simplicitymccallsaustralia #s8701 which was released back in 1978 (picked it up from @savers ). I did modify the length of the bodice and used a smaller seam allowance as I needed a little extra room across the bust. I also added shoulder ties and omitted the elastic from the waist as I quite like it flowy or styled with a belt. Although the dress seemed cursed from the get go, it just goes to show if you preserve you can sometimes turn a project around. Here I go again making another TNT. This time it's the turn of @simplicitymccallsuk Simplicity 8701. This is my third version of this pattern and I love that once I got the fit adjusted to my liking with the first version, I could just enjoy the sewing process. The fabric is a mid-lightweight denim from @sewmesunshine in a lovely warm camel colour. I've topstitched the jeans in olive green. When I took these photos I was also photographing my two previous makes and ended up wearing all three together...I rather like this combo! To post or not to post was the question of the morning. I sewed up Vogue 8772 in a chiffon fabric picked up at my local Joann fabrics along with this gray sweater knit . I have been wanting to sew a pussy bow blouse for a while and decided to give it a try. The pattern is fantastic and a great fit but the fabric choice looks a bit matronly. Perhaps in a satin for the holidays?? I will definitely be making a collar version because the fit is perfection. The sweater knit cardigan is McCall 7476 and I know it will get a lot of wear. Not a total fail however not how I saw this in my head! It’s the last day of #memademay2022 🎉🎉🎉 I am so proud of myself! I wore #memadeclothes every day this month! While I didn’t take selfies on the weekends to post on IG I still wore my #handmadewardrobe every day. Today, I’m wearing my jeans. Some basics today with this Simplicity 8701 black linen pants. Anyone that knows me knows I love to wear dresses however fall and winter calls for pants!
