This jacket has been on my to-sew list for a couple of years now: it was heavily influenced by a tweed and leather McQueen moto jacket that’s been haunting my dreams since 2023. This was a mashup between Mimi G’s #S9638 and Mood Sewciety’s Rosemary blazer, cherry-picking components from both to Frankenstein my ideal fit. ▪️ All the textiles aside from a flannelette interlining were thrifted finds. I initially wanted the solid black parts to be leather but despite months of searching, I couldn’t find the right leather jacket to harvest the material from. Luckily I found a few metres of the wool a few months ago and just used that instead. The lining is flannel-backed satin, which I adore for its heaviness and warmth. ▪️ This wasn’t a difficult project per se, but it was absolutely labour-intensive, with 4 zippered welt pockets, 10 belt loops / straps / epaulets, a belt, and hand-basting the flannelette interlining to each of the bouclé / tweed pieces (feel free to school me on this fabric in the comments). I luckily got a lot of stress out by hammering the innumerable snap fasteners, eyelets, and rivets 😅 ▪️ I’m mostly satisfied with how this turned out, but with any project, there are a million little things I would do differently if I were to make it again.
