I did all 5 of the live sew alongs I promised myself I would do 🧵 🪡☺️ I had to jump off last nights live with @sewsophisticateddesigns due to going to a friends play. But let me tell you @thestitchfitz pattern is amazing. The directions are top notch. I mean look at my fly zipper!!! 👀 I avoid fly zippers at all cost 😒😕 But last night I got it done….and done correctly 👏🏾👏🏾 I’ll be finishing up this weekend and will post the finished look. I finally finished Know Me patterns 2053 #me2053 is some plaid / houndstooth suiting from my stash this week. The pattern was great to sew. There were a few tricky bits, but there is a video sewalong on Youtube that helped through those.⁠ As for the style, I think it’s super on trend and fun, but I’m not quite sure it suits me. I honestly feel a bit frumpy in them. I’m still trying to figure out exactly what it is that feels off to me. Maybe I should have taken some width out of the hips or length out of the rise, not sure. I’m going to keep trying to style them in different ways to see if they grow on me. ⁠ As for sizing, I sewed up the size 16 which is what was recommended to me on the size chart according to my waist measurement. I know that a lot of the big 4 patterns run big, but the waistband only these had 1” of ease so I knew not to size down. ⁠ I styled them with a Nikko top - my go to this time of year. #nikkotop

It’s been a LONG time, folks. But I finished these trousers over the winter break (started them in AUGUST, gasp) so I thought they deserved a little love. These wide leg trousers are Know Me X The Stitch Fix (#me2053) in the MOST luxurious cotton/tencel blend from @blackbirdfabrics. I took my time with this babe of a pattern. I adore a pleated pant so I really wanted them to work. I swapped out the back pocket for a buttoned double welt, used a premade waistband (because I thought it looked cool…), and omitted the belt loops except for one in the back, which looks weird, but whatever. Maybe one day you’ll see them on… By the way, what are we wearing with pleats and wide legs these days, friends? In Colorado we still have a couple months of winter weather ahead of us so I decided to put together a plan for personal sewing for the remainder of season. It's #memademay! My favorite Instagram time of the year! Me Made May is a time of the year when sewists post their items that they have sewed. Historically, I like to try to post almost every day with an outfit that includes something that I have made. However, this year I have been going through a different style journey! I recently had my colors done with @createdcolorful and found out that I am a warm spring. This was a pretty big shock to me, and I had exactly 1 item in my closet that fell into this color palette. I've really been enjoying that journey but have bought several new items to make up the difference in my color palette because it's a lot faster to buy things than it is to sew things. So my plan for me made May 24th is to take you on the journey of planning and sewing a new wardrobe in this new color palette. So each day or most days I will either post a make or a plan for a new make with fabrics from my new warm spring palette. And may even throw in some makes for my kids every now and again too! Today's outfit is really not the best picture, and I probably should have ironed these pants, but I have a JCrew cardigan from @thredup . Let’s talk about these #ME2053 trousers! TL;DR I’m pretty happy with these right out of the envelope but will make some tweaks next time.    (And please excuse the wrinkles — my personal policy is not to post anything I haven’t already worn for the day :)    These trousers have pretty much everything I could want: pleats, a hidden button extension on the inner fly and not too wide of a leg. I made a size 10, based on finished garment measurements and didn’t need to adjust from there. People often complain about too much ease in Big4 patterns (@knowmepatterns have the same block, designer @thestitchfitz confirmed) but these were TTS for me.    The only part I didn’t like sewing was the back welt — the instructions could’ve been better, it needed more interfacing — and I wound up hand-sewing the pocket closed. Next time, I’ll rely on instructions from a different source and just do a faux welt because I never use those pockets anyway.    I also cut the waistband to not extend beyond the fly, but that was completely accidental. It’s fine, just a slightly different look than the envelope. And I omitted the front coin pocket.    On fabric: I used a 1.4m @meetmilk_fabric tencel twill remnant from @sewmesunshine.uk and if you want a soft, drapey fabric, this is a great choice! I wasn’t quite able to pull off a blind hem with it but that may well be a “me” issue. Me Made May • day twenty-three!! I’ve been a bit like Goldilocks with trouser patterns lately, trying on different ones and not finding the one that is exactly right yet. The protea pant is pretty darn close but I wish it had welt pockets and I haven’t found a welt pocket piece I like yet! My latest on this quest for the perfect trouser pattern was the Know Me by Mimi G trousers and they’re good! Honestly, if I tried them on at a store I might even say “omg I love them! They’re great!” but because I made them, I zero-in on the specifics, the little itty-bitty things I wish were different. For example, I think the fit around the bum could be better. I also decided to use the welt pocket pattern of my genet trouser and I don’t know why because I don’t love it on my genet trouser and I don’t love it here either. *sigh* Anyways, these are great and fun and I’ve worn them to the office a few times already but I’m still holding out for the *perfect* pair 😚 Trousers • #me2053 pattern by @knowmepatterns size 10, made the belt carriers smaller, omitted coin pocket and used different welt pocket pattern Fabric: sculpted stretch poly double crepe from @blackbirdfabrics in ‘paprika’ - this is the true mvp!
