Some holiday outfits made by me! There were a few more bits and pieces but these are the favs. They’re also some of the few things I’ve gotten round to this year as I’ve been doing less sewing. 1: Butterick #b6901 waistcoat and trouser pattern in linen made for this trip. Obvs the trousers get v wrinkled but wore them with many tops as well as the matchy waistcoat. Loved this pattern, almost def going to make the whole thing again but def will use the trousers. 2. Spotty viscose dress I first made a year ago more strappy then redid the top half and much prefer it this way. Can’t remember the various patterns. 3. New viscose brushstrokes dress using McCalls #m8104 which I got free with a magazine. I’ve made it before but this time went without the flounce. 4. Pink trews (top is from Uniqlo). These had a bit of a journey as I used Vogue #v9361 which is a proper wide leg pattern. But I just felt they looked ridic on me so I tapered them in - twice - and fixed my botched waistband and now I love them. I bought the fabric - which is a lightweight denim with a little stretch - like three years ago planning on this but only got round to making them a month or so ago. Before covid19 I was doing a sewing course and obviously classes stopped. I had at this stage cut out my pattern pieces to make these pants and I was a bit nervous of messing it all up. Well I did mess up lots, which made me think of inventive fixes and it ended up being a nice new fun project which I learnt a lot from. WIDE LEG TROUSERS Finished! I can’t remember I made a “big item” this quickly - although the pattern was “tres facile” so not entirely unexpected. #v9361 was a pretty straightforward make. I lengthened the pockets a little to hide my phone, and had the take a whopping 12cm out each leg hem circumference to fit the pattern pieces on my narrower width fabric, but they are still absolutely huge on my tiny frame! I made the size 10 based on pattern measurements, but before adding the waistband yolk, felt they were too big so I increased each of the back darts and took more in the side seam, reciprocating with a larger back yolk seam allowance & taking side yolk seams in more too - still could have done with being a wee inch narrower round the waist though, and that was after taking 6cm in!! I forget how much bias cut waistbands will stretch - have enough scraps for some belt loops because I used some liberty scraps for all the facings - #strawberrythief - what else!?! (Swipe to see) I also shortened the length, this had a “petite fit” risen-shorten option, glad I’m now understanding my sizing though and shortened the legs not the rise! Overall, a super straightforward make, could’ve done with extra images in the zip construction, but didn’t set me back too long! Wearing them out tonight, reliving my uni days - wet ankles here we come! In Oct 2019, I made a pledge to sew my stash as I was conscious of my ever-growing fabric stash and the impact excess consumption has on our planet. Instead of going cold turkey, as like any diet, it's hard to stick to, I gave myself permission to buy one new project for every four projects finished. I finally got the guts to cut into this vintage cord material I picked up from an opshop several years ago. I'm so glad I did! I made these wide leg pants using Vogue 9361. I had to take them in at the hips by about 3cm each side as they were really unflattering and loose. I also took the leg in by 10cm, the width of the leg didn't suit the cord but with a softer, drapey fabric it would work really well with the wider leg. I also had to lengthen the leg by 15cm to get a proper full length for me. I don't see myself as super tall but I feel like a giant when it comes to lengthening sewing patterns. MMM24: Day 16 I've missed two days of #memademay2024 because I was travelling :-( During the day, I was wearing a cute Ottobre top (Ottobre 2018/02/03). This is such an intriguing pattern. It is simple, and at the same time, it allows you to have fun with strips. The only difficulty is finishing the neckline without stretching, as the whole part is sown on the bias. I used some jersey viscose from #stoffundstill. I'm also wearing a pair of Vogue jeans #V9361. In order to make them, I used some non-stretchy jeans from #supertkaniny_natan.
