Does anyone else have a fabric association in their head? For me it’s any Lady McElroy cotton lawn print that I buy 5 metres of. My default idea is always my favourite shirt dress, the Vogue 8577. I love this pattern so much and, more importantly, I wear the ones I’ve made frequently. The 5 metres of fabric also allows me to squeeze a little scrap busting project in as well like the Vogue 9345 you saw earlier this year. I love repeating patterns, especially with precious fabrics as there is security and comfort in making something I know I love and wear out of a fabric that was expensive and sometimes irreplaceable. Shirt dresses, if only they didn't take so long to make my wardrobe would be full of them! This is the #v9345 which I have had on my list for a while and finally got around to making in February. I used a navy cotton linen blend that I bought on a trip to @fabworksmillshop, it's a lovely fabric and was very easy to work with. I think the dress will be just as useful layered up for winter as it is for the heat of summer. The dress took a bit of work to get right. I made a 10, but used the 12C pieces for the front bodice based on the fit of other Vogue patterns I've made. If I make it again, I'll raise the waist as it's falling a bit low, but with a belt you can't really tell. The sleeve was ridiculously tight and had no movement so I ended up drafting my own and was pleasantly surprised how well it turned out. I finally finished this #vogue9345 dress that I started at @workroomsocial wardrobe week. I’d had this @fabricgodmother fabric for a while but couldn’t decide what to make with it. This is the first time I’ve had to resort to doing my photos indoors because of the crazy weather! This is my House of Gucci inspired dress made from Vogue 9345. I quite like the dress, but I’m not crazy about this pattern and the way it fits. I thought with both Princess seams and darts (and a yoke detail as well) it would be quite fitted through the bodice. I made my normal size in Vogue but it seems to have a lot of ease Also the top and skirt pleats and seams didn’t seem to line up as well as I expected. I graded out the hips and thighs a lot on the skirt and I am happy enough with the fit there. The waist is the right size but under the bust seems baggy. Also the waist is low. I’m 5’9” but don’t lengthen bodices because I have a high natural waist. I just add length to skirts. The waist on this would suit me better 2” higher! I think it looks better with a belt and I had considered making a wide self fabric belt to visually move the waistline, but I think a black one looks good so I’ll probably stick with that. I’m not sure I’ll rush to make this pattern again. I’m really pleased with the leopard print. It was a bargain from Pound Fabrics. Do you like the bell sleeves? I’m wondering if I should put some elastic through the wrists. #v9345 #poundfabrics

Another little scrap busting project today. I just had enough of this Liberty Carline lawn left to cut out this tie front shirt (Vogue 9345) and I love how it’s turned out. This is definitely a hard working TNT pattern for me and my usual go to when I have decent but weird size scraps left over, which is often the case when the original project was a giant shirt dress (Vogue 8577)! I made a LOT of these shirts last year! I wear them frequently and the mostly tiny pattern pieces fit on to the odd shapes of fabric I get left with after cutting out the giant dresses and skirts I like. I am going to try and make less TNT’s this year….but these shirts may not count towards that tally as they are technically scrap buster projects….right??? I’m not sure how successful this set is. In theory I love it but I think the fabric is wrong for me. Nicola @_allabouttheoutfit_ put me in the Spring colour palette and I have to say I am loving all the bright pops of colour I’ve been adding to my wardrobe. Whilst I love the silhouette of this set (V9345 shirt hack and the M5829 Halston style skirt) the colour is just too pale for my preference. Good job I’m going fabric shopping soon!! Getting closer to my ultimate shirt dress pattern! This is #v9345 in fabric from a friend that I guess is some kind of cotton but maybe I'll find out for sure later. View B, no adjustments besides constructing in a slightly different order than the instructions.
