Every once in a while, I test my pattern drafting or hacking skills…all of which I learned from YouTube! I was heavily inspired to make a dress a la Molly Goddard, with the clean lines of a 90’s scoop neck and Simone Rocha femininity. To achieve the look? Hacking Simplicity pattern #s8258 with a longer skirt, modified neckline and scooooped back. I made two toiles to get the fit and minimize gaping in the back, then added boning to the front and back seam lines to achieve the body-skimming shape. When I’m wearing it, the dress feels like an homage to my leotard and tutu days. Fabric: @badgleymischka stretch heavy satin (sooooo nice to work with) and tulle + netting from @moodfabrics (not so fun to work with, because volume)

Working on my second fabric for the sewing swap challenge! A dress in a beautiful jacquard with bust darts, princess seam AND pockets! All the panels in this dress make fitting an absolute breeze. The pattern also has cup size options and hip size options. 🤯 So many options for tailoring I was *almost* able to cut a straight size, almost. #housecoat or is it #housedress? I’ve heard both. This garment fills the watching soap operas and day drinking 🍸 gap in my wardrobe 🤣. This is @simplicity_creative_group vintage #s8258 from 1977. (I mistakenly said it was 1971 earlier). I especially like the giant patch pockets that double as belt carriers. Very 70s detail! Originally I was going to use another pattern, but the size was too far off. The fabric is #vintage too and it really seemed perfect for a housecoat. Fabric Speaks! This fabric told me to buy it! I went to @the.sewing.studio to buy buttons and came across this fabric now I normally don’t buy polyester fabric but it was so different than what was in my closet. I have an event coming up so I made a practice dress to make sure of the fit! The fabric is a bit stiff so it needed a simple dress! I made a thing in school! I did so much altering on this pattern—including drafting a new sleeve and taking in the side seams (the original design is more A-line than sheath) and the shoulders. Firsts (for me): first drafted sleeve, first set-in sleeve, first neckline drafting, first sewn darts, first zipper (invisible), first princess seams, first dress with a lining, FIRST TIME EVER IN MY LIFE HAVING A LONG-SLEEVED WOVEN ANYTHING THAT HAS FIT IN THE SHOULDERS! #simplicity8258 #S8258
