Happy Sunday! Today I pulled out an oldie but goodie to wear to church. My #diyshirt made using Simplicity #s8830 I made this button up shirt 4 or 5 years ago. The fabric choice makes the shirt come alive. I love it. I did not want to wear the shirt out in its full length nor tuck it in, so I tied it in the front as a method of shortening it but keeping it stylish. I have to shout out these amazing fitting jeans from the Sophia Vergara collection at Walmart. It was the perfect length for my 5’3” figure. Of course I wore my favorite yellow Doc Marten sandals and my yellow Jessica Simpson bag. Yellow is that color that just makes me smile. We went to the lady service of church and listened to an awesome message from our founding pastor @dennisvrouse who gave an amazing, necessary, and always needed message on reconciliation. Hands up all of you who are still making summer makes in FALL!😂😂. Oh snaps, it’s just me ? 😂😂 Sorry, not sorry . It’s still summer in Arizona … uummh it’s about to be summer all year round so I can’t help myself.😂😂 . I am back home in Philly for a bit as mom just had surgery, so I was sure to bring my summer makes to photograph😂. And these days I am all about the color block ! This is my 3rd try with this color combo and the first one to actually make it to your screen 😂, even though it was a challenge finding buttons. My coworker is in India right now trying to find buttons to match but just by luck, I stumbled across these buttons at @pacifictrimming and they are the perfect color match! . I have made this pattern about 5 times now and every time I make it, the hemline is different. You know why? I had mistakenly cut the front of the pattern the length of a shirt and the back the length of a dress. So each time I make it, I need to add length to make the front as long as the back. Now the smart thing to do would be to use pattern paper and fix it so the next time I won’t have to alter it again… But your girl is just too lazy to do that so I keep doing the manual adjustments every single time I make it 😂😂😂… . Added bonus for this dress .. My mom says she LOVES the color combo! That’s definitely a plus for me, as mom is very traditional and stays away from current or trendy fashions 😂😂.. . My first time sewing with denim for my sisters birthday gift. She designed this herself and as she lives in another country I have to pray this fits her! The top is based off of #mimigstyle #s8830 with the sleeves hacked off, cut short, new collar added and grommets attached. 😂 a lot of customisation but I love this pattern. The trousers are based off another old jumpsuit pattern I hacked. I took my time with this make and was really intentional with the finish. This jumpsuit almost became a UFO. I started it over a month ago. When I was almost done, I put it to the side. It wasn't that it was a hard project. On day 12 of #SEWRORITYSEWTEMBER, inquiring minds (including mine😂) wants to know what’s my FAV pattern. Well, it didn’t take me long to realize that #S8830 is my fav pattern! It holds that title for these reasons : 1. It’s a shirt dress pattern and I am all about the shirt dresses now . Shirt dresses are timeless and classic. They are also perfect options while your weight decides where it wants to be 😂. 2. The pattern offers different options . It can be a dress or a shirt or somewhere in between. 3. The pattern comes together pretty quickly! I can get it done in a few hours , like seriously! 4. The possibilities are endless with this pattern. I have made it like 6 times already and every time I come up with something different. The white dress is the only one where I made it a exactly as the pattern says. All the other ones, I used different sleeves options, or different lengths or no pockets or no shoulder tabs. I also have added a collar to all the versions except the first one. The shirt one is color blocked. And the one I am currently working in, is yet another variation. 5. Endless possibilities when wearing the shirt dress. I can wear it loose or I can accessorize it with a belt. Or I can wear it open with jeans, slacks or shorts. And then I can go with heels or sandals for a dressy or casual look. So many choices ! . . Happy Monday friends. I have been working on a project for a friend the last few weeks and completed it this weekend. Well HELLO there! Almost missed the first day of @sewroritywear #sewroritysewtember ! Let me introduce myself - my name is Paulette. I am originally from Jamaica (as if my IG handle isn’t a dead giveaway 😂). I migrated to the US about a year before I started college, to Philadelphia. Philly was home until about 15 yrs ago when I landed a job with this technology giant and they relocated the family to Arizona. . I am an automation software engineer and PM, in the semiconductor industry. An automation issue means production interrupt, which means impact to customer commits, which means stress levels through the roof! Sewing for me, is how I de-stress after fighting fires at work all day. So I am sure to set boundaries for myself when it comes to sewing: 1. I have zero interest in sewing for other s as that’s a major stressor. 2. I am always sure to pace myself. That is, I set tiny goals and do a little bit at a time. I would never set a goal to sit down and sew a dress in one sitting. Sure I can do it, but why push myself and risk being stressed ? I will sew two seams and call it a day, if that’s all I feel like doing at the moment. The minute I feel ‘pressured’ to complete something at the moment, I walk away and come back when I am more relaxed. 3. I am intentional with my commitments. This means skipping some challenges, sew alongs, or other IG events as I am only going to commit to what I know I can deliver without introducing stress in the mix. 4. I am true to my style. I know what works for me and I make clothes that are my style . I am not going to sew something because others are doing so and I am not jumping on the latest trend just to be ‘in’. . I am really excited about Sewrority month and looking forward to meeting other sewrors. I just hope I can keep up with each day’s theme. Truth is, I already need to think outside the box on some , like tomorrow’s theme, my sewing space - I don’t know that needs to be shown 😂😂. . Bday Dress for @jessbarratt3 Only a month and a half late 😅 Went with a tnt pattern - @simplicitymccallsaustralia #s8830 and the vintage feeling wallpapery fabric was purchased from @myfabricology I love the combo, vertical stripes are always a winner for this shirt dress. This is the third time I’ve made this pattern, and I’m happy to see growth from the first two. The biggest difference is the hem - using bias binding instead of a double fold gave such a nice, even finish around the difficult curves. Will be doing that more, even though it adds extra time. The pattern also calls for one back yoke piece however cutting out two and constructing it using the burrito method will always give such a clean finish on the inside. I wrote up a tutorial on how I used my @silhouette.inc Cameo to cut out the HTV that I placed on the back. l don’t have a crazy bts stories for this shoot. Wow. Really gotta do something about this background. It’s starting to look like a renaissance painting in here. 🖼️ Anywho, Electric Lime Summer continues! This fabric spent 3 weeks in shipping limbo; this was supposed to be my birthday set fabric, but at least it’s here now! 💚 As usual, I had some trouble sewing up this rib knit. I turned my serger differential up all the way but still have wavy seams. I also made a matching tee that didn’t turn out well, so I have to revisit that one. But overall, I’m happy with my second Whitlam! 🌱 And I buried the lede, but I also whipped up a long button up shirt dress that I’ve worn the last two days! I have been trying to pack for vacation for about 2 months now .
