Saw this pattern on a Wednesday - had it finished by Sunday! Anyone else see a pattern that just overtakes everything? Adored the shape, the pockets and the details when I saw @lydianaomistudio post a pic of this utility style dress. Chose to cut into some denim I’d been saving from Weft & Warp in my stash after speed assembling the pdf @knowmepatterns #me2068 pattern. My machine certainly had some tantrums with the thick fabric but some wine and a few troubleshooting routines later, and I love the finished dress. Especially the buttons from @weftandwarpfabrics (swipe to see) I couldn’t have a full utility look without some fun floral!

🪻PURPLE SHIRTDRESS🪻 Happy #memademay2024! I’m so grateful to the community I’ve found on this site. I’ve been sharing my me-made daily outfits in my Stories and loving all the wonderful garments the sewing community is displaying right now. I also want to say how thankful I am to be connected to a community that cares about what’s going on right now—from college campuses to Gaza—I’m grateful to the activists, the information sharing, and the awareness I’m seeing amongst the sewists I follow. Clothing and textile production are undeniably a source of enslavement, colonization, and human and environmental abuse across history and during our present moment. It’s important to see those who are seeking these arts to be building awareness and speaking out against injustice in this world. This cargo linen shirtdress was a labor of love. As soon as I laid eyes on the pattern, I wanted to make it. I love the topstitching (even if I didn’t use contrasting thread!) and pocket details. But my sew-jo failed me during this project—in part due to imposter syndrome and fear of poorly cut fabric—and this is the longest project I’ve ever made. Once I finally got over my fears, it truly wasn’t that hard!! But I slightly regret not grading out my hips as I would be happier if my low hip/bum area had more room. I removed the sleeves, in part because they were puckering a bit, but mostly because I think this sleeveless version will serve me better—a sundress in the summer and it can be worn with a shirt underneath in the spring/autumn. TLDR: This dress was hard for me. But I’m pretty damn happy with the outcome. 🪻PATTERN: @simplicity_creative_group KnowMe 2068 by @lydianaomistudio #me2068 in size 14.
