Finally got the chance to wear my Star Wars print tank to Galaxy's Edge! This top is a McCall's M8255 that I scaled from a size 12 in the bust to 16 in the hips, and added a little more at the waist to fit my measurements. It took about two months to complete, but unlocked a whole new level of customization with sewing patterns for me. And I love how this cotton and linen top hugs my curves without being too tight! I do have a lot of pics of the pattern adjustment process and still saved the resources I used to figure out my adjustments. For my entry for the #sewfruity23 challenge by @blossomsandwich I made the #m8255 view A in an impulse buy quilting cotton from the Joann Mothers Day sale a few weeks ago. I love how cheery it is! Of course, a frozen Orange Crush helps. I’ve had the pattern in my stash for a bit, and in an incredible game of pattern Tetris got this top out of a yard. While the bust is too small and the neckline a bit wide, I can definitely see using this as a bodice for a casual dress. I brought my machine home with me for the week, and plan on cranking out some neglected projects in the evenings, so stay tuned! Hi everyone, this was my first time sewing a fitted blouse I used McCalls pattern 8255. It was more challenging than I thought took quite a bit fitting the garment just how I liked it and I ended up putting bias tape around the whole seams which took quite a bit of time. My first project of 2023 is done, and I just could not resist some flowers to brighten up the month 🌸. Of course it’s a #thriftflip, and I love the cottage core vibes ♥️. From curtain topper to top lol - here’s how I made it happen! I used #mcalls8255 which was one of the most popular pattern choices for 2022. For fabric I used a #thrifted pair of #jessicamcclintock curtain toppers, likely from the 1990’s. The print and style work well with the round neck and full sleeve and feminine style. I made some alterations to the pattern, including the sleeves so that I could use the ruffle edge to full effect. I played around with the seam allowances with the front princess seams to get a close fit. I skipped the separating zipper because I’m trying to use up my supplies. I also skipped the lining and made facings to finish the edges. I think I will be able to wear this blouse a lot! This was a stretch project for me. I almost always #sew #knit apparel. Woven fabric scares me off - fitting is so hard! Knits stretch, which give you a lot of leeway in fitting. But wovens... If you don't do it right, you just look silly. But I want to get better at it, so I undertook this project as a starting point - a basic #princessseam top, @mccallpatterncompany #M8255. I used a fabric from my stash since it was a bit of a trial. I don't love it, but it was definitely a learning process in terms of fit! I get away with fudging a lot with stretch, but this helped me understand exactly where things needed to be adjusted. For instance, having a bust measurement helps, but that doesn't tell you how that measurement is distributed as actual body - is it in front, on the sides, even throughout? It ended up taking a long time to make so many adjustments, and I'm not really crazy about the top, but it was still really helpful! #sewsewsew #mccallspatterns #sewistsofinstagram #sewing #sewingwithwovens
