Hey friends! In this post I am sharing my #bhmpatterndesigners challenge submission for 2024. I made @knowmepatterns #ME2055 in collaboration with @sewnaturaldane . I also made my second version of @knowmepatterns #ME2023 (My favorite hoodie pattern). If you aren’t aware of the @bhmpatterndesigners challenge, let me fill you in. This is a lovely challenge that @sewnaturaldane put together to celebrate black pattern designer during Black History Month! Please see the rules for the challenge on the last slide. While I had some brain challenges while placing the pockets on my joggers (no fault of the pattern at all), I did really enjoy sewing these joggers. For this version ME2055 view B (which I’m calling my wearable muslin), I chose to use two light weight French Terry fabrics that I had in my stash. I do wish that I had made this outfit out of a heavier weight knit but I wanted to use something in my stash for my first version. These two patterns are easy to put together and the pattern instructions are fantastic. I recommend that you check them out. Leopard down to the socks!! 🐆🖤🤎🎃 As you can see I love animal print! Completed @thecornyrainbow @knowmepatterns #ME2055 bodysuit + modified it to a top because I didn’t have enough fabric and the fabric used, lightweight Camo fleece, has absolutely no stretch. ☝🏾I knew this and still cut out my size, and to no surprise, it did not fit. Entering the chat are orange ribbed knit scraps that got added to the side seams, neck and hem to create a cute design feature and make the orange inserts look some-what intentional. #mamadidntraiseaquitter Paired with is my second make of @knowmepatterns #ME2054 cargo pants by @keechiibstyle. These are a grey mid-weight denim with minimal stretch. I want to make more! Modifications: 🪡 Ommitted the waist ties, added hook + eyes 🪡 Used 2 cargo pockets only + moved to side seam 🪡 Ommitted ties at legs + frayed the hem (not pictured) 🪡 Added belt loops #isew #blackgirlssew #imakemyownclothes #sewing #sewingdiary

Nefertiti Griggs @thecornyrainbow 😉 is an American pattern designer who is also a KnowMe pattern designer, I've chosen her as my second designer to honour for Black History Month. Nefertiti is an amazing, versatile, and colourful designer. Nefertiti's sweat pants #ME2055 is a fun make. Almost all of the pattern pieces stated to cut one only, so that lends to scrap busting!! Which for me was so much fun 🤗. TBH I didn't really follow the instructions, so when I screwed up and cut out the wrong pattern piece, there was no one around to blame. 🤦🏿‍♀️ The pant is view B, so I went ahead and collected all the view Bs and then cut out the material, not realizing that some of the view Bs were actually supposed to read as view A. 😏 🤷🏿‍♀️ If I looked at the instructions or even just looked at her video, I would have known.🙃 All the material used was scrap pieces from the bin, and most of the garment was serged. It's an easy make there are no zippers or buttons. I didn't do the elasticized cuff because I loved the look of the pants without the cuff and I left the flap off some of the pockets for ease and for interest. So cool looking 😎. Oh! I went down a size, too.
