👗 I have a few summer dresses that haven’t been posted yet and because it’s still warm around here, I’m going to love, wear and post them! This beauty is a combination of 3 wrap dress patterns. I used Simplicity #s8735 for the bodice, Butterick #b6554 for the skirt and Butterick #b5030 for the flutter sleeves. Originally, I chose these 3 patterns to mash up for a sewing challenge that I could not complete in time. However, I was determined to make this dress for summer because of the fabric. I LOVE Indian hand-block fabric designs and this one is exceptional. I ordered it from a seller on Etsy and it’s a light and airy cotton voile weight. The other change I made was to make bias binding out of the fabric and use it for the bodice instead of facings. Living my gothic princess dreams with this gorgeous deep red silky fabric. Made another #s8735 but I shortened it considerably to make it more modern. I was aiming for knee length so this hem will be large, but that’s ok with me! Also featuring my dog being a derp, and the new coat I got from @collectifclothing . I rarely (never?) post here on my sewing IG because I’m usually more of a lurker. But I wanted to show those who could appreciate the dress I made for my husbands memorial. He loved me in wrap dresses and soft fabrics, so I chose #s8735 in a silk jersey. Because was so lightweight I decided to do French seams throughout. The night before the service I was sobbing at my machine, pretending it was because I was struggling with a french seamed set-in sleeve with a thin jersey I could barely feel. I made a Christmas 🎄 suit! It all started with a need for a festive pussy-bow blouse. Then along came this super cute check-pink mini skirt. And even with check matching, there was enough fabric left for a little jacket. Bingo!🎄 This is my Christmas Day outfit preview, basically 😆 as I don’t think I’ll have enough time or energy for photos on Christmas Day after I’ve cooked enormous amount of Christmas feast but I’m planing to change into this after the cooking 🧑‍🍳 🧵 the blouse is vintage Simplicity 8735 view 3 #s8735 I think it’s about early 1980’s. Fabric is some sort of soft silky satin from @exeterfabriccentre 🧵#cluelessskirt mini skirt by @puff_and_pencil Fabric from @exeterfabriccentre and it’s like brushed flannel but with tweed top. Made is size S, no mods. Beginner friendly and super fast sew. 🧵 #lupinjacket by @deer_and_doe_patterns I didn’t add any bands (waist or wrist) but extended the lengths for about 1,5”. Had to give up on pockets as my fabric was not cooperating on delicate cuts and folds. No shoulder tabs. However, I used up some off cuts from the blouse and my stash for the lining. See one of the pics where arm lining is different. I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to put these off-cuts to such good use! Why yes I did buy a tiara, and yes, I do wear it while sewing for fun. Skirt has been added and I honestly want 10+ of these and I want to wear them all the time. I’ve already made the skirt pattern shorter, knee length shorter, and I’ll make a slightly shorter version that’s still long but that I can walk in. I got this fabric in the mail yesterday and I’m wearing it today. Obsession? Extreme love? Yes and yes. Are you as in to the color as me??? I think Poppy Red is moving up to replace yellow as my favorite color. All of the colors in this are just perfect. I’ll be honest, I had zero direction when I started this. I made the blouse portion and then got a little stumped on the skirt. I was afraid it would look too western or childish but it turns out I like it! I messed up proportions a little bit and wish I had shortened bodice but a little extra cinching of the waist with a belt helps. Well I’m working on gorgeous gowns like this and if you swipe, you see the cramped chose I’m working with. The desk to the right is actually broken and the other is decent but also not the easiest setup. Especially trying to get my ironing board in there. Not seen is the separate section of where I keep my notions because I have more than these desks can handle! Also been harboring of delusions of grandeur where I feel like I could strike big in the sewing YouTuber community and make custom gowns but alas, I know how tough that is so I’ll just dream. 🤭 Regarding this project though, I love it. The fabric was described as mushroom brown and ghost white??? I had to get it, thanks again to @fabricmart for the great selection! I lined the bodice with cotton and the skirt with a light black lining. The pattern is #simplicity8735 or #s8735 which is one of their releases based on the dresses in the classic Ever After movie. I snagged a pattern from Ebay and this is one of several I’ve made. The shoes I’m wearing are these adorable boots from @springstepshoes . They’re very comfy and I’m excited to wear them when we visit Salem, MA! It will be several days of wearing my favorite dresses, looking witchy, shopping, and just general exploring. Simplicity #s8735 the mythical beast that is the #everafter inspired pattern. I’ve been searching for one in my size, uncut, for ages. Well the wait is over because I did it! It’s mine, in awesome condition, and I can’t wait to get something made. I’ve started a mock-up, and it fit! So great progress already. But look at that sleeve pattern piece…it’s huge! That’s one sleeve, cut on the fold. This will take up ALL the fabric. I’m stoked for the fullest sleeves in existence but damn that’s a lot of fabric, haha. To help me get in the mood for sewing I put on my favorite #studioghibli movie, lit the most amazing smelling candle, and just vibes while I figured out exactly what I can do with what I have for the pattern, fabric wise.
