It was kids week on the Sewing Bee last night and what a treat the makes were! The pattern challenge had our sewers creating little sailors suit. Tricky elements to the challenge included choosing the perfect fabric for a neat finish and a good contrast tape for the collar. We love pattern M6913 for a cute dress version of the traditional sailors suit. The made to measure challenge featured a spooky make as contestants were asked to make a halloween costume with a 3D element. The judges hoped to be surprised by the shapes and colours used and wanted the sewers to use their sense of humour when designing the make. They did so well with some fantastic costumes sewn! We love S2788 for recreating this challenge. Yeah yeah it's a week out from Halloween but I'm still posting these costumes! Finished a couple other projects i need to take pics of, but in the meantime gonna enjoy these pics of my babies trick or treating. Pumpkin is #simplicitypatterns #s2788 in anti-pill fleece from #joannfabrics ; Frankenstein is #s9194 with vest lengthened and sleeves added to create oversized jacket. Now back to regularly scheduled programming of sewing only for myself!

To say I’ve waited my whole sewing life (over a decade now!!) to make Halloween costumes for my kid is an understatement. In fact, I have been so excited that I made three costumes this year. May I present: A purple monkey (iykyk @fisherprice parents), a Lucy Goosey and a Little Lamb. I don’t post photos of children on social media but trust me, my lil baby is so cute in these. I used some McCalls patterns from the 90s #m8381 and #m8938 and a newer Simplicity #s2788 for these costumes. 🧵

Halloween costume details! CeCe told us all what we were going to be this year. She chose the story "Curious George Goes to a Chocolate Factory". She was, of course, the main character. Mama had to be The Man in The Yellow Hat, and Daddy had to be The Man in The White Hat (AKA the chocolate chef). BOTH of my machines decided to die as soon as I started sewing, which lead to a big delay in what would otherwise have been a leisurely timeline to get this done. CeCe's costume was made with #S2788. I just modified the lamb ears and added toes to the feet. The chef costume was made from items we already owned and a few purchased pieces. The man in the yellow hat was the most work! The hat is made out of felt and a prayer with very thick interfacing in the brim. It took two tries and the most math I've used since high school. 😂 Riding boots made the look work, and I used a belt I already owned. The tie was purchased, then I painted on the black dots. The pants were just basic pajama pants with thick elastic at the waist and at the bottom of each pant leg, made just long enough to go into the boots. The shirt was the #helensclosetcameron , but I lengthened the sleeves an inch and threw elastic in at the hems. No time for plackets! Thank you to @HelensCloset for your great instructions, because I had never attempted a shirt like this and I finished it in one very long night. My honey in his mom-made pumpkin costume. This piggy LOVES pumpkins, and i love him 😍 I used #simplicitypatterns #s2788 to make the pumpkin and "stem" (as he calls it), with some giant googley eyes from #joannfabrics . Looking forward to seeing him in action on Sunday "getting ALL the candy"
