Happy Hump Day! Here's the next skirt in the "summer skirt series". It is a Short A-Line skirt. 💐 I made this skirt using @mccallspatterncompany @simplicity_creative_group @simplicitymccallsuk #B6670. I also made a few modifications. I drafted a 2" waistband and added pockets. 💐 Fabric: @joann_stores Pattern: B6670 💐 Pros: This pattern is only one pattern piece (quick and easy) 💐 Cons: No waistband, No pockets, and it has you use ribbon as your facing (not a good look for curve women like myself). I think a waistband is definitely needed for this pattern. 💐 In the photos, my daughter and I were actually fighting with thunderstorms to get the photos taken. It started raining in the photos but hey the photos still came out pretty good given the conditions. A throwback to the old JetBlue cabin as they are starting to refurbish them. It was a very good red-eye to JFK; I appreciated the eye mask and the ear plugs and that they kept the cabin dark for as long as they could. The screens were small and the free wifi was spotty but those didn’t matter much. And they weren’t kidding about the extra legroom... My first project with buttons is finished and I'm super happy with it 👏🏻👏🏻 I've never worn a #peplumtop but for some reason, I wanted to make one in this gorgeous bright blue cotton sateen fabric. I cut a size 12 and made two small adjustments - I shortened the bodice by 2 cm (I won't next time) and I added two small darts in the back as it was a bit loose fitting. I might try a size 10 if I make it again. A UFO and a refashion walk into a bar and order a drink to celebrate as they're all stitched up 😂😂 (Apologies for the bad joke!) UFO: In April 2019, I bought fabric and buttons from @rathdownefabrics to make a peplum top and pants using #b6670. The top was finished in December 2019 and I started my first ever pants project in January 2020. I cut a size 14 and basted them together but they were too big so I downsized to a 12 and tried again in August 2020. I couldn't get the wrinkle lines on each side of the butt (see last photo) to go away so they've been sitting in the naughty pile for 4 years. I decided to tackle them as one of my UFOs for 2024 with the goal to donate them when finished. Funnily enough, I think they look good enough on to keep, despite the wrinkles in the butt. My perfectionism is clearly waning 😂 Refashion: I made #nl6430 in 2017 with the most expensive fabric I've ever sewn with ($90/m regular price from Clegs). It was my 3rd project (gosh, I was so naive!) and there were a number of issues with it e.g. I didn't finish the seams 😮 The dress is too small but the silk was so lovely and expensive (pics from 2017 show the real colours) that I decided to unpick it and separate it. I've donated the black dress (I had a uni-boob wearing it) and will keep the silk top for those hot summer days when you need a light, floaty top. Sometimes a plain black skirt is the most necessary project. This one is from Butterick 6670, a wardrobe pattern, made from black linen from my stash. Fully lined so that it isn't see-through, which gives it a nice swish. Also used some fun grosgrain ribbon from the stash for interior finish to give it some pizzazz.
