Would anyone want to sew a cropped jacket / skirt combo? #m8350

Not a costume, though I suppose some people would consider stage wear as such, so maybe this long overdue post is well timed anyway. This whole suit was an experimental, make-it-work kind of sewing situation. Fortunately my boldness/recklessness paid off and turned into something I adore. It started with the pants, which were my toile of the @daughterjudypatterns #worshipjeans I made during a jeans fitting intensive with @newmass. I originally planned to make these in raw denim, so I did not wash this white bull denim before cutting. This ending up being a totally unnecessary gamble as I pivoted to a different fabric plan halfway through the class. I worried I’d regret not pre-washing and end up with a shrunken, unwearable pair of pants. But so far, bull denim’s tendency to stretch out like crazy has saved me. About halfway through constructing the jeans I realized they were destined to be another two piece suit for my stage wear closet. I was so determined to make this impetuous, unplanned vision into a reality that I hacked the vest into existence with under half a yard of remaining fabric cut entirely on the cross grain. It’s based on #m8350 but I redrafted the front pieces and armscye, made it unlined, somehow managed to bullshit a button placket with no fabric left for a facing, and probably changed some other things I now don’t remember, so maybe don’t consider this an actual exemplar of the pattern. The Worship Jeans hype is real. As indicated from the action shots, one can sit, squat, back bend, kneel, and crawl on stage in them comfortably, all without sacrificing the 🍑 fit. Cannot recommend it enough for those with curves and a large waist-hip ratio. This is a straight size 4 with none of the changes I made to my later asymmetrical pair. The topstitching is probably the star of this show. I used three colors of Mara 70 throughout the jeans and basically eyeballed the design on the pockets and vest with a French curve.
