I had a great time with my husband this weekend at @linvillaorchards! We came home with honey crisp apples, a giant pumpkin, and an assortment of other fall decorations and treats. I made his shirt with New Look 6197, using fabric from @joann_stores and contrast poly broadcloth from @fabricdotcom. I made my dress with a recent vintage reissue pattern, Simplicity 9537 (#S9537), for the skirt and Simplicity 9642 (#S9632) for the bodice. I'm back again with the rest of Simplicity 9632! I was really attracted to the dramatic hemline on this tunic. The fabric is vintage and was gifted to me by my partner's grandmother. I had some issues with this pattern - the sizing ran small compared to other Simplicity patterns and I had to let it out at the end. The armhole depth is also low, which causes the whole thing to lift more than I would prefer, and the upper chest is very full. These are all unusual issues for me, so I think the pattern has a few issues. I'm not sure I can 100% recommend the pattern. I would recommend maybe looking for an actual vintage pattern instead. I did not line the skirt, but otherwise it's pretty much as designed. 🍂🍁 I’m going to a Fall party today, and I found the perfect me-made outfit to wear to it! 🍂🍁 The pants are made with #Simplicity9632 (Size 14) and the top is made with #Butterick6895 (Size 12 with some bust adjustments for fit). The metal buttons I got from an Etsy seller, and I added a bit of Simplicity gold trim to the back yoke seam and the pants hems. The fabric is from @joann_stores. At long last, Autumn has arrived in my home sewing studio, and I could not be any happier about this development! I made this dress to wear to our yearly pilgrimage to @linvillaorchards this upcoming weekend, so I hope to take some fun photos of it out in the wild, but I could not resist sharing these photos in the meantime. The lovely fabric is from Joann. The bodice is Simplicity 9632 - View A - Size 12. YES, it’s a costume pattern, but based on what I’m seeing around the sewistverse, I’m not the only one that has recognized that the potential of this pattern extends far beyond the realm of costume. I made some of my usual adjustments for fit. Next time I make it I may shorten the back bodice by about 3/8” more than I did this time - it looks okay as-is, but I think it would FEEL better with that added adjustment. I also raised the V-neckline by about 3/4”, shortened the sleeves, and increased the armhole circumference by just 3/8” in the back only (and added 3/8” to the back edge of the sleeve to match). Overall, I am thrilled with how this bodice fits me and I will definitely be using my modified pattern again. I am also having a ton of fun making different versions of the View A belt with fabric flower (or in the version pictured here, bow) embellishments. The one pictured here was made with faux suede I picked up from Joann a couple years ago. I found clip-on fabric flowers at Joann for easy switch-ups. The skirt (OH THIS SKIRT!!!! 🥹❤️) is Simplicity 9537. In my entire storied history of ruffling, I have never ruffled as much fabric as I ruffled for this skirt. It was SO WORTH IT! It feels so lovely to walk around in this dress. I love the way it swishes reassuringly against me as I walk. I feel very elegant and … protected somehow. Clothing can be such a source of comfort, and this dress reminds that you don’t need to go heavy and clunky to feel cozy. I’ll pop back in later this weekend with more festive pics! What could be more fun than sewing in the Fall?! To prove that the answer is “nothing,” I’ve been sewing up THE cutest outfits over the last couple weeks, that I am going to have a blast wearing over the next few weeks! The candy corn fabric and bolero outfit pictured here consists of the following: BOLERO: This is the #peterpanbolero by #charmpatterns. This was my first time trying this pattern after wanting to for months, and I LOVEEEE IT!!!! 😍 I made Size 8 and it’s just perfect. The fabric is from @joann_stores - including luxury fleece plus teddy bear fur for the collar and cuffs. I used plain black broadcloth for the facings - I wasn’t sure how that would work in combination with the fleece, but it ended up working just fine. The large snap and faux crystal button that I used for the closure system at center front, I’ve had in my stash since around the time I started sewing! They came from some garments I got rid of around that time; I kept those elements because I liked them and thought I might want to incorporate them into a sewing project at some point. 4+ years later, here we finally are! 😜 TOP: The top is adapted from the #lamourdress pattern by #charmpatterns, with an added ruffle peplum. The candy corn fabric is from Joann. I added baby rickrack for a fun finishing touch. PANTS: I made these with Simplicity #S9632. This is my second pair of pants that I’ve made with this pattern, and there will be more! It’s turning out to be one of my favorite pants patterns ever. I love the yoke fitted waistband, which is super flattering, and I love that the legs are nice and slim. This is Size 14 with 1.5 inches added for length and slight adjustments for fit, but not much. It's gloomy out today, and that means it's time for these very autumnal pants! I made them using Simplicity 9632, which is technically a costume pattern. I also made the top, and I'll showcase that soon. These pants were easy to sew. They sit at my natural waist and have a wide waistband with a side invisible zip. I cut a 10 in the legs, 12 in the hips, and 16 in the waist. I probably could have used the 14 as they are a little big in the waist. I shortened them by 4 inches to get a cropped pant. The fabric is a vintage synthetic that feels kind of like an ultrasuede. It's soft but has zero give or stretch. It's not really a pants fabric, so I'm happy with how these came out! I only made them because I had fabric leftover from the top.
