Simplicity 8594 is definitely my go to pattern. The style really suits my curves and few edits required. The navy and ivory floral does not have stretch so is the least comfortable but the other two have stretch and didn’t even need a zip or lining. Big wins! 🪡🧵👗💖#s8594

So happy with my dress for the wedding of the beautiful Georgia and Brad at Milton End Barn in Stroud yesterday. It’s a scuba fabric with an oriental pattern … medium weight, a little stretch along the length and a lovely silky feel to it. It’s one of my absolute favourite patterns and yet each one feels entirely individual due to the very different fabric choice. I added a little peplum to the hem, which made it feel more like a party dress which given the dancing we did was perfect. I wore it for 12 hours and was as comfortable at midnight as I was at midday and not a single crease! The key to this dress is the bodice fit and every make requires a different set of edits due to fabric content. I am so happy with it and felt super glam next to my gorgeous hubby of 31 years … it was also our wedding anniversary! Fabric is from @minervadotcom #s8594

About last night. It was a therapeutic evening of sewing. I still have some #UFOs and I'm trying very hard not to create anymore. So I reach into the bag to grab this dress. I used #s8594 I bought this pattern in the smaller size grouping. So i had to grade it up plus do my usual fit adjustments. I fabric is from the Textile Warehouse on 21st Street in Chicago. They have Africian print fabrics for about $6 per yard. The cheapest I've seen. I barely had enough to make the skirt. So at the hem some of the skirt was missing a small triangle. I pieced it together. It worked. You can barely see where I did it. See next to last photo. When I was in my mid-20s my friend’s mother lent me her old unused sewing machine. I have a fuzzy memory that she didn’t end up wanting it back so it became a gift. Thank you Patty wherever you are, I wouldn’t be living my particular life now without your generosity back then. This clutch is one of those early pieces and I’m still using it 15 years later. I made this cocktail dress for a recent awards ceremony for my husband’s job! This is Simplicity pattern #S8594 view C. In which we camouflage into the study… Have been majorly bitten by the #sewing bug. Making kids’ clothes has been easy because they’re basically shaped like tubes. This is my first time making adult clothes in like 20 years and it feels like a miracle that it’s something I’d actually wear! This dress and belt took me a little over 7 hours. It feels like a long time for something simple I’ve made before with paper pattern pieces already cut and the only seam finish was pinking shears. Or maybe it’s average? How will I know, if it’s a really long time? How much active work time does it take you to make a garment like this? Stopwatch screenshot (6:13:38) doesn’t include the hem or belt because I did those the next day. I started the clock when I opened the first bin to choose fabric and stopped it after hand sewing the bodice lining. I paused it for lunch and kept it running during a few little breaks like wandering outside to say hello to the chickens. Matching chicken-sized fabric-covered belt coming soon?
