I’ve made a few tops during the fall and winter but haven’t shown them on IG so I think I’ll put them all together here before the New Year. 1. This was my Christmas Day blouse pattern from @anlukaa and the fabric is a lush cotton double gauze from @califabrics This is a #freepattern and would be perfect for the #sewfrugal challenge in March! 💡 😉 2. Simplicity #s9240 made out of an interlock knit from @fabricmart 3. I loved the raglan sleeve of the #s9240 so I made it again in a soft sweater knit from @mandlfabricsanaheim and added a turtleneck 4. The Betty Sweater dress by @madebyoranges shortened into a sweater in a super soft sweater knit from @mandlfabricsanaheim 5. McCalls #m7360 made in a crinkle challis from @mandlfabricsanaheim which was very shifty to work with but made a nice blouse in the end. 6. The Lisa Cardigan from @seamwork is a free pattern and so cute. I just got back from a vacation where the weather was chilly (so nice!!) so I quickly made a sweater! This was the perfect layer for the plane and cozying up on the couch/ hanging around the house. The fabric is so cozy and lush and I have plenty left for pants or a matching sweater for my hunny (or myself, let’s be honest). Let’s talk about SUN HOODIES ☀️   I get tons of questions on the daily from folks asking about technical apparel fabrics for sun shirts and hiking pants, so this post is for the hoodies!   FABRIC:   My all-time favorite fabric for sun hoodies is a the 150gsm (4oz) merino/nylon blend jersey from @wearethefabricstore . I haven’t found a similar fabric consistently in stock anywhere else – but if you have recs let me know!!   It is SOFT and very durable, doesn’t get stinky after long hikes, dries super quickly, and can tolerate a wash/dry cycle (although I minimize putting it in the dryer whenever possible). Kevin and I are HOOKED on this fabric and will wear it in all climates and for a wide variety of activities (hiking/backpacking, fishing, snowboarding, kayaking, etc.)   In the pics above, this fabric was used for Kevin’s dark teal and light wisteria sun hoodies, as well as my burgundy one.   An ok alternative is the 150 gsm merino from @hobbyfabricstore . This used to be my go-to until discovering the merino/nylon blend. It’s a tad more scratchy than the blend, & it goes thread bare faster & is much more susceptible to holes. That said, Kevin and I have three years and hundreds of miles on our sun hoodies made out of this fabric – so it’s still a favorite, and comes in way more colors! (Pics- K’s grey & grey/blue, my green one, my parent’s orange ones).   I’ve also tried a merino/Tencel blend but I find the fabric is wayyy too drapey & the hood is so floppy that I just don’t reach for it all that much (it’s the light grey with green ice dyed front).   PATTERNS:   For years I hacked the #s9240 hoodie for these, before discovering the @learnmyog #alpharaglanhoodie pattern, which I now use for both of us. All the versions made out of pure merino are the simplicity pattern, as is my burgundy one. It’s a bit of a boxier fit than the learnmyog hoodie, but it requires more hacks to fit. Kevin’s purple and teal, as well as my grey/green sun hoodies are all the alpha raglan pattern.

Finished my new pyjamas :). The fabric is a lovely, Art Gallery Fabrics, fleecy-backed cotton jersey from Abakhan. The pj trousers are from the luna pants pattern - of course :) The top is a new pattern for me Simplicity S9240. I used black ribbing fabric for the neck, cuffs and bottom band, and left it pretty loose as it's for relaxing in. I also tapered the sleeves after advice from @hoosier.handmade Due to high neck, and fleecy backing, the set is really warm - so perfect for the next few months. Kevin’s newest pants! ✨   Pattern: @elbe_textiles #JohnsPants, drafted on a men’s block for hip sizes 32.5 to 56.5in. (Released today! 🎉)   Size: Kevin’s waist is 34” and hips are 39.5” so I graded from a D waist to an E hip, then I lengthened the inseam 3” at the L/S line to account for Kevin being 6’4” and having a 33” inseam.   When grading the pants from the D waist to E hip, I initially did this on the side seam of the front leg pattern piece, but in order to maintain the integrity of the slash pocket (and prevent it from gaping), I should have kept the slash pocket as is, and graded on the pocket bag piece instead, so keep this in mind if you fall between sizes!   I really enjoyed sewing these pants. The instructions are very clear and it came together in about 4-5 hours. The zipper fly instructions are different than I’ve done before and was quite painless!   Fabric: Houndstooth star-check linen from @linenlab.co.kr (gifted – use code MADEBY_FRANCESCA for 10% off 😘). Kevin called dibs on this fabric the second I opened the package, and has been begging me to make him pants out of it, so I’m glad this worked out!   The fabric is a very loose weave which causes it to be quite shifty and fray easily. I spray-starched all the fabric before cutting out the pattern and was careful to finish the seams immediately to prevent fraying. The advantage of the loose weave is the incredible drape and soft hand of this fabric, which is the softest linen I’ve ever worked with!   We took these pics after Kevin had worn the pants for two days, so you can see how the linen has worn in. 🍷 Burgundy Jumper (for Mr)🍷 I cut this out at the end of last year and then spent a couple of evenings sewing it. Seeing as I cut it out in 2023 I used up my last labels from last year 😁 I sewed View A, with the in seam pockets. Sadly I didn't have quite enough fabric for the hood! So no hood but maybe next time. I think it came out pretty good! I mean it's pretty standard, just a cosy jumper. 🍷 Burgundy Jumper (for Mr)🍷 New project....! I first bought this fabric in 2022 and Mr loved this fabric and requested a jumper in it. Catching up on sharing my Fall Makes 🧵🍂This one is such a winner!! I’ve fallen in love with this make and this pattern. It was such a fun sew and I love a raglan sleeve design! This pattern is quite oversized in my opinion so check finished garment measurements. I did remove 2 inches from the sleeve width as they were too voluminous. Super fun pattern to sew, with no hemming as you have a waist band, sleeve cuffs and a neckband. Highly recommend this really fun sweater for cozy Sweater Weather! But our cat deserves some grid time too 😻 I made Kevin another hoodie out of this same material 6 or so months ago that he wears all the time so I’ve been keeping an eye on sales to buy more in another color!! MATERIALS: the large loop organic cotton French terry and matching rib are from @iseefabric TIME/COST: fabric cost $35, it takes exactly 2 yards and a lot of Tetris to fit the pattern pieces! I bought the pattern for $1.99 three years ago and have made it over 15 times so that was a great investment.
