When it’s your 15th wedding anniversary, you wear the 🌸fun🌼 dress to run errands. Yesterday was our anniversary, and we spent it running around town with our girls. So, although we were going to places like Walmart and such, I wore a dress that felt like me (because why not). I made this dress in February but wore it for the first time yesterday. I couldn’t figure out what to layer under or over it from my closet to make it work in cold weather, so I waited for warmer weather. 🧵This is View C of New Look pattern N6614. I graded between sizes and still need to make some upper bust adjustments for the next time I make it. Right now it gapes if I bend over or don’t completely have my shoulders pulled back. I need to narrow the area from shoulder to shoulder (petite/short proportion problems). The fabric is 100% cotton, so I tried my best to get all the shrinkage I could out in the wash before cutting it to sew. It’s breathable and comfortable and fun to wear. I used a vintage purple zipper from my mom’s stash and sewed it in a way where you could actually see it instead of hiding it like a usual zipper. I wanted the fun color detail. I also added added orange and pink piping on the neckline (instead of facing), straps, and pockets for even more fun details. I would consider this dress a one-day make for sewists if you had no distractions or other commitments (or kids lol). I originally bought the pattern to make View B for Easter but wound up going with a different pattern (a reel is posted about that free pattern I used to make the blue Easter dress). View C was a bit more casual and a good way for me to work on getting the fit right and making a wearable toile. I’m pretty happy with it! 😉 Also, in the last photo, you can get a peek of my husband. I was testing my camera settings before handing him the camera, so I got a candid shot of him. I haven’t posted on the grid since October! To be honest, I have struggled with the idea of posting anything on my channels because of the fear of being seen. Haven’t been sewing at all because I started a podcast (@shelflovepodcast) but the quarantine has given me the push to get back into it because it’s relaxing and I miss it. I had way more practical things I could have seen but decided to just be frivolous and do something that makes me look forward to spring! Since the rayon fabric was a bit thin/ see through (but nice and drapery, which I felt was important since it’s not form fitting), I fully lined the dress with a silky lining fabric. I finished a final make for May just in time before the end of the month. This is a New Look pattern and I opted for the view with waist ties as I thought it would come in handy to tighten or loosen according to the changing weather. It’s a simple pattern which I did a tissue fit with rather than make a toile. Fabric was purchased locally last year and is a viscose, which surprisingly behaved itself more or less. Originally bought this pattern for the asymmetric option after seeing @vivmomsews in a version last year, but think I also love this option as well. #memademay2023 post for a few dresses I've made over the last year. I'm excited to wear them more now that the weather is getting nice. The orange is a linen blend from Rick Rack Textiles. Dress pattern is the New Look N6614 (view A). The green rib knit is fabric I bought from Goodwill at a real bargain. Pattern is my first attempt at the Raveena dress by Tammy Handmade, which has since inspired more makes! It's a fantastic pattern.
