It’s been one month since this most magical day so I thought it was high time that I showcased the dresses I made for my beautiful bridesmaids. All fabric is from @ladymcelroyfabrics and is a mix of their cotton lawn and viscose challis. I cannot emphasise enough how beautiful this fabric is, such incredible quality and it really felt like something special to make these dresses from. My bridesmaids chose their colour and pattern with the theme being colours of the sea. And here she is! 🤩 This was my dress for Canberra Frocktails that I sewed up over two weekend. Viva la quick sews! The pattern is @simplicitymccallsaustralia Vogue 9343 (B:112cm W:94cm H:117cm) with a bunch of adjustments that is tempting me to dust off the ole blog to share them. The fabric is a gorgeous iridescent taffeta jacquard from @wearethefabricstore called Poppy Illusion. This frayed like a jerk but the colour and pattern made it so worth overlocking all the pieces! The glamour rating is 12/10! This was also the first time i used horsehair braid/crinoline for the hem which added some extra pizazz! More photos to come shortly but in the mean time a huge shout out to my fellow committee organisers—it was such a wonderful night and we crushed it! I found someone who makes over a decade of marriage feel just as magical (actually, more) as our first date. 🤍 Happy 12th Anniversary, @thisguymakescoffee! ~ A few days ago, I decided I wanted to make a dress for our date. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be ready in time, but I finished minutes before we had to leave. 😅 This is likely my favorite dress pattern I’ve made. I love the silhouette! Besides a little difficulty with interpreting instructions for pleats on the bodice, the construction was pretty straight forward. The neckline is originally ultra low; I stitched it up a bit higher for my comfort. I’m definitely making this pattern again! Here it is! My Canberra Frocktails dress! This is @simplicitymccallsaustralia Vogue 9343. It’s an Easy rated pattern with a seriously fun plunging neckline that required an 8cm FBA and raising the CF by 18cm to work for me 😆 I also removed 2cm from the neckline (tapering to nothing after 20cm) and added horsehair braid. The fabric is a seriously shimmery taffeta jacquard from @wearethefabricstore called Poppy Illusion. The detail on the flowers is amazing and it has a gorgeous iridescence to the flowers 🤩 As it is a jacquard and frays like a jerk, I overlooked the edges of my bodice pieces before working with them which helped! I hastily took these photos right before heading off to bump in for the night with the organising committee. We had such a great time with 80 folks joining us from not only Canberra and surrounds but also QLD, VIC and NSW! What a night 🥳 Now to start plotting for 2024 😎 - Please note: this fabric was gifted to me by The Fabric Store to sew a garment of my choosing. And I chose the swishiest dress around! La voilà !! Enfin je trouve le temps de prendre en photo ma super robe de fête 2021 😊😊😊 Cette année j'ai un peu plus osé que d'habitude et voulais vraiment vraiment une robe de princesse 🤗☺️ J'avais la patron de la robe vogue #v9343 depuis un moment mais n'avais jamais trouvé l'inspiration pour la coudre. Puis, j'ai vu passer un super mixe d'une magnolia avec une #jupelaparisienneam faites par @wonder.lucie qui m'a littéralement fait craquer. J'ai trouvé l'idée de mixer cette super jupe de @ateliermaelstrom en robe trop bien. Bon, pour une fois je n'ai pas voulus repartir sur une énièmes magnolia (on verra plus tard 😂) alors ça a fait tilt ! Ça sera un mixe avec la robe vogue ^^ Bon, je n'ai quand même pas osé le décolleté plongeant, sais t'on jamais un sein qui sort dire bonjour entre le fois gras et le Champagne, ça la fou mal en famille quand même 😂. Alors j'ai ajouté une fermeture éclaire argentée. Je l'ai simplement trouvée sur Amazon La petite goutte m'a tapé dans l'oeil. Le tissu est une viscose vert canard acheté chez @craftinemercerie que j'ai re teint en vers sapin (bah voui Noël 🎄). Une fois mon mixe fini, je trouvais qu'il manquait encore un petit quelque chose. Alors j'ai photographié la petite gouttes de la fermeture pour un faire un dessin et l'ai découpé dans du flex paillette,puis pris l'intérieur des gouttes pour faire un contraste de taille et des petites vagues pour border mon ourlet ^^ J'ai du poser les gouttes une à une a la pince a épiler 😂 Autant dire que cette année mes envies de paillette et princesse ont été assouvis ☺️ Par ce post je participe donc pour la seconde fois au defi de @ledressingdecindy et @happy_as_a_bee_ #monbeaudefi en version tenue de fête. I’m so excited for the return of #CanberraFrocktails after a few years 🥳 We have a long weekend in Canberra and I’m looking forward to spending some time at my sewing table! At the start of September, I began a new job after almost 6 years and it has been amazing—and also exhausting 😆 Last weekend I spent a bunch of time googling this @simplicitymccallsaustralia Vogue 9343 bodice and it now fits my G cups much better. The fabric I’m using is a gorgeous taffeta jacquard from @wearethefabricstore called Poppy Illusion. I grabbed a swatch of this back in March when I visited @liblib for @sew_melbourne Garden Party and was delighted to see there is still some available! this was the most beautiful wedding venue & it made everyone look great 💕 but let’s talk about my dress lol⠀ ⠀ this is @mccallpatterncompany #V9343 in crinkle cotton from @joann_stores. I actually made this dress in March 2020 for a beach wedding that spring that of course, didn’t happen. So this was my first time wearing it!⠀ ⠀ technical details | the bodice is a size 6 and the skirt a size 8 but I could’ve done a straight 6. Along the back zip, I took in another inch on each side for a seam allowance of 1 5/8” there so make the top more snug. I adjusted the skirt in a corresponding manner.⠀ ⠀ other considerations | because this bodice has a deep V, if it lies flat while you’re standing, it will definitely fall loose when you’re sitting. My boob tape wasn’t working (it was old I think) so this was a huge annoyance to me anytime I was seated. I would also think carefully if you’re large-chested — though you could sew up the V a bit to not be so revealing.
