My latest #madebyme is this button down shirt with statement sleeves! I friggin love it. I used Vogue pattern #V9299 and sewed the size 10 with zero alterations. This is view C. I French seamed ALL the seams. A couple of firsts for me on this make were, with the help of my online besties at the @sewsewlive Sew Sew Guild, transitioning from a French seam to a narrow hem vent and setting in sleeves with a French seam. I was going for Edwardian girlboy, and I think I hit the mark! The fabric is a Japanese shirting from @moodfabrics and I can’t remember where I picked up the buttons… The single deviation I made from the pattern was I interfaced the button placket, and I would strongly recommend doing this. The pattern calls for simply folding over the placket presuming the doubled-over fabric will provide the structure necessary for buttonholes. Unless you’re using a heavy-weight and very stiff fabric, don’t count on it! This was a fussy make, but went together very smoothly. I originally bought this fabric to make a kaftan birthday gift (see last photo). But I loved it so much I had to get more, although I wasn’t sure at that time what I was going to do with it. Finally landed on a simple shirt. The chartreuse trim was an afterthought, so it was a bit tricky to apply neatly. But I’m pleased I added it, because I love how it draws out the colour in the centre of the flowers. Aiee I went back and forth on posting this one. You would normally not see this with my bare legs, my plan is to wear it with matching blue/teal tights and probably, knowing me, boots. I feel inexorably and painfully drawn to my pale pasty legs that throw off the balance of this. Our own harshest critics, etc etc. SO. With the leftover pointe knit fabric from the previous dress, I decided to copy a knit pencil skirt that I have and like, but also to make it several gores instead of just a front/back--mostly due to the shape of the leftover fabric and because I could delight myself with more topstitching. It's high waisted, very form fitting, and dare I say sexy. Or, it will be when I style it right. This was a pretty fast project--I also experimented (successfully) with a casing free, elastic waistband and can I just say: YES to that. Note: All gores are straight. There is no need to cut curves into something this stretchy. #Ihavespoken #askmehowIknowthis With the skirt cooling her jets on my (new, happy bday to me) dressform I decided I wanted a blouse, too. I had recently plucked #v9299 from my inventory and chose to really throw caution to the wind and make it up in a vintage 50s/60s silk, ribbon weave, floral fabric I got from the estate of a stitcher whose son was throwing everything away and someone saved most of it and gave it to me. ANYWAY. Silk: WAY easier to deal with than a similar weight polyester. Photos in no way do it justice. It's got a subtle depth that gorgeous. Do I love them together as much on me as on my form? The jury is out. I do need to add a snap to that space between the second and third buttons where the bazooms want to bazoom a bit too much and there's gappage. I am positive I adore each piece individually and am likely to feel the same, eventually, about them together. Another stormy day another new make. I’d had Vogue 9299 in my pattern stash for some time but only rediscovered it recently when looking for something else. It’s sooooo me. Big sleeves, belted waist and perfect for cotton lawn. You need 3 or 4 metres (depending on width) for this so it’s not an economy make, but I will certainly do more of these. It’s a straightforward make and about as easy as a proper collar and cuffs shirt can be. I got another lovely 3m remnant from Lady McElroy in a recent 25% off offer. These new rich jewel colours of Cobra Corsage are irresistible. The Marlie lawn is stable and easy to sew with. When you love a fabric so much, you accidentally buy it twice. I totally forgot that I had already made up a blouse in this leopard print linen from Tessuti years ago. It wasn’t until I came home with a new length from which to make some pants that I thought to myself: ‘Haaaaang oooon….’ and checked my wardrobe. 🤦‍♀️ Obviously, I wasn’t wearing the blouse much. So I recut it into a more structured shape which I thought would go nicely with the pants. In reality, I doubt I’ll ever wear them together, but I’ve worn each piece separately several times. It’s like a painting. 4. #v8599 pattern paired with fabric #silkcrepe with Lifted Pattern, Floral Print, a delicate floral pattern in Turquoise, Lilac, Violet, Ivory, Light Blue and Teal all standing out on Black – with a lifted floral #jacquard pattern also in Black is light with a great feel. The colors are brilliant. 5. V9299 D style with #Seersucker has the right weight and feel for a #shirtdress. A summer time go to for business and dinner. 6. Vintage #voguepattern shirt pair with #Pleated Cotton, Made in #Switzerland is really pleated much more in the picture and I love it. 7. #v9299 paired pleated cotton style B shirt dress with really add a nice twist to the design. 8. We popped into a really cool little town on a day with incredibly beautiful weather as the sun was going down and definitely want to go back! #Vogue9299 I don't hate it unbelted - I don't feel like I'm swimming in it. Also, the shirttail hem gets a little short when you cinch it up with the belt, but I'll still wear it with just opaque tights. Very pleased with the alterations I made to Vogue 9299. I put diamond shaped darts in the waist at the back and front because I felt my previous version was too puffy under the bust and around the bottom. Now I feel I could wear it without a belt, but I still like the more fitted look with the sash This fabric is a Kaffe Fasset design that had been in my stash for some time. I felt it was a bit too girly for a dress for me, but I think it looks at home on the frilled sleeves of this tunic top. #v9299 #sewover50 #kaffefassett

Not gonna lie, this dress was 100% inspired by @sewcreatebyjaimie whose version of this pattern is 🔥. I dressed mine up with a silk charmeuse, which sounded like a great idea until I started sewing with it. It fought me every. step. of. the. way and made this relatively easy make quite a challenge. I used French seams and rolled hems throughout, which didn’t make it any easier. Now that I’ve wrestled it into submission, I’m loving the 60s vintage vibe of this dress and it was definitely worth the fight. Peep 👀 the perfect buttons from @tabithasewer ! This is #Vogue9299 sewn up in a lovely shirting that I purchased from @harts_fabric I made a size 12 based on the finished hip and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised by the fit (Vogue tends to have some... idiosyncrasies) Didn't have enough fabric for the belt so I used some faux leather in my stash. I’ve been chilled on this 26th Day of Me Made May, so it seemed like the perfect time to show you this cardigan I made a few years ago, featuring a made-from-scratch hammerhead shark appliqué on the back, which I hand sewed on. More recently, I also made the tunic top pictured here. I used Vogue 9299 (#V9299) for the tunic top and Simplicity 8742 (#S8742) for the cardigan. The tunic top is huge at this point and kind of frumpy, but very comfortable so whatever. 😜 The cardigan I made in memory of my Ecuadorian parents, both scuba divers back in the day in Ecuador. I lost them when I was young - my dad when I was 22, my mom when I was a baby, only 17 months old. When I was in grade school, I remember finding my dad’s diving journals and being awestruck by his entries telling of encounters with sharks. Inasmuch as I miss my parents and on some level will never get over the loss of them, I made this sweater as an empowering reminder to myself that I will be okay.
