Made my own swimsuit! @simplicitymccallsuk Made a mock-up first, but it still took forever to get the fit just right. For those of you in the sewing community who want to make this suit, be sure the foldover elastic is shorter than the leg holes and arm holes and stretch it to fit. Then it'll actually be a functional suit. I did some water aerobics and swimming afterwards to put it to the test, and it was a success. #BRAugust2022: Beach/pool Swimwear is definitely one of my most satisfying projects to conquer. I love wearing me-made swim for a thousand reasons, and mine see pretty even action between the pool and the ocean. Here are some makes from this year! #S9609 / #VernazzaTwoPiece mashup: I love these colors and the style lines on me! The sizing was consistent with other Madalynne patterns. I used the Vernazza bottoms since I like the cut and was too lazy to toile 9609. I’m proud of my sneaky two-piece hack (easier bathroom breaks and I can wear the bottoms with other tops!) #TarleeTee / #MNCottesloe - I won the Tarlee in #BRAugust last year! I made this a snug-fitting crop version and I still want a looser, full-length version to layer over other tops. I made a lot of adjustments to the Cottesloe bottoms and these are ultimately wearable, but I’ve come to accept I do not like their curvy block on me. #HannaBralette / #NoellePanty : I used the bralette pattern for the top (the updated pattern with cup sizes fits so well, even though the overall size range is still small). I wish my ruffle was more ruffly, but this fabric takes all the attention anyways 💁‍♀️ #VernazzaTwoPiece : I love this swim fabric (stretchy but supportive) but I have mixed feelings about Vernazza. The top seems to have a *lot* of negative ease and very minimal bust coverage. I had to scoop out the arms a bit (common for my narrow shoulders) but the bottoms fit well! You know what’s a great way to make a pole competition even more nerve wracking? Sew your own costume for it 😂 On Saturday I took part in my second ever comp at @physipolesomertonpark 👌 I am not an accomplished poler - I don’t have a dance/fitness background, and although I’ve made personal progress in classes I take a lot longer than most to pick up new skills and tricks - but I LOVE the idea of all the creativity involved in pulling together a character and a story to entertain people. So when I decided I’d like to do my Halloween routine with a spooky, witchy, look-what-you’ve-done-to-me vibe, I knew I’d want to sew my own costume to bring that vision to fruition 🤌 I used the @mmadalynne @simplicity_creative_group #s9609 swimsuit pattern as the basis for a body suit. I adjusted the neckline on the front bodice piece to have it further up rather than a scoop to account for the ribcage, and also reduced the length on the centre panel (short + wide torso problems 😂). The outer fabric is a shattered glass effect spandex from @theremnantwarehouse and is absolutely my cup of tea 😍 I paired it with their black fold over elastic, a bra hook, and their red power mesh for the lining. The white sparkly fabric is a knit from @spotlightstores which I backed with knit interfacing for stability, sewed onto the mesh, and padded with toy stuffing for a 3D effect. Sewing narrow, slippery knit fabric to a single layer of mesh was…interesting. Let’s call it a labour of love 😅 The realllyyyy fun bit with this costume was that I completely covered the mesh/ribcage with a panel of the green spandex, and then did a rip off reveal towards the end of my routine to suggest I was literally tearing myself apart. I’m really hoping the professional photos that will be released later captured how (intentionally) unhinged I looked 😂 I had a lot of fun with this and I think it showed - I was utterly thrilled to get the audience choice for best costume of the night 😍 Huuuuuuuge thanks to @di_dances for all her work in choreographing my routine and helping me throughout the process! Di always believes in my ability more than I do and supports where I’m at on any given day 💪

I sewed up my very own swimsuit and I have so many thoughts and feelings about it! I had a goal to sew one up this year and am feeling very proud of myself. 🤗 I really enjoyed the process of making it and actually wearing it at the beach. 🏖 It was WAYYY more cheeky and high on the hip than I anticipated, but the deep V in the front and the back was my favorite part and I loved wearing it. Below are all the details: ✨I made the #S9609 in a size XL (without the band in the front) and used fabric and supplies from @mmadalynne. ✨I was really drawn to this pattern because of the overall fun design and the fact that I could use foldover elastic. This felt way more accessible to me as a beginner and in the end, made the sewing process more enjoyable, plus I really like the unique finishing detail. ✨Based on my measurements (B38/W32.5/H40"), I chose the C/D cup option, but ended up having to add a dart in the bodice section to take in some of the excess fabric. I'm proud of myself that I was able to problem solve this and make the addition of the dart seamless. ✨The bodice was incredibly long and baggy when I basted it to the bottoms, so I ended up sewing the shoulder with a 2" seam allowance. This ended up raising the underarms, so I scooped out about half an inch so they sat lower and more comfortably under my arm. ✨The inside of this suit is lined but doesn't have a clean finish. The directions have you use the lining and outer fabric as one piece and then sew/serge the seams instead of constructing it so the raw edge are facing each other and then flipping it inside out. This doesn't bother me, in fact, it allowed me to make adjustments on the go a lot easier, but wanted to make a note of it. ✨This suit did not stand up to the rough waves of the Jersey Shore, so I will continue to wear it, but probably to the pool instead for more loungey days! That's everything! I'm so happy I made this pattern. It is very beginner-friendly, comes with a video tutorial and it's given me the confidence to get started on another swimsuit.
