#sewphotohop Day 29 Buttons or Zippers: Take this suit as a sign of my preferences! Buttons are beautiful to embellish the garment. But buttonholes always make me a bit nervous. The fact that i's the last thing you do and it could possibly destroy all your hard work make me hesitant to buttons. So I've choosen one button jackets recently. I love concealed zippers as well. Don't know what I would do without them. Jacket pattern is from Burda Style magazine 11/2007 and it has got a perfect fit for me after a small FBA. The pants of which you see the back side in the photo are vintage Vogue Donna Karan #v1962 with deep pleats in the front. The fabric is actually pitch black and a viscose stretch crepe. I thought I learned the narrow hem technique from this Donna Karan for Vogue Patterns 1987 pattern. My memory was faulty because it’s not these instructions. I never sewed any of these skirts, but I did try on the pleated skirt in a soft crepe in a store. It was flattering. @siobhanceleste 1) press a fold near the edge. 2) sew a line of stitching close to the pressed edge. 3) Trim close to the stitching. 4) Press another fold to enclose the trimmed edge. 5) Stitch again (It can be tricky to turn corners so stitch with a hand needle in each corner to give yourself something to pull with. This keeps the corner from getting caught in the feed dogs. Use a straight stitch plate if you have one.)
