Victim of the recalcitrant photographer, the sewing blogger’s brand new sweater knit coat got cut off by approximative unflattering framing. The photographer had the gull to say the coat « wasn’t exactly slimming » to which the Canadian born blogger said dryly : “Dude! Coats are exempt of flattering figure laws on account of protective obligations.” A lifelong wish to own a red riding hood with a potential Ms Claus 5 minutes Cosplay option puts this make in the total win-fun-statement-frosting category. It’s therefore my favorite coat until I say it isn’t anymore. Another first for me: working with neoprene. I’m in love with this coat.

🧵🧶[#v9340] I am advancing at a steady pace on my cheater cable knit coat/red riding hood. I am taking great care to not stretch the fabric. I have set the differential feed to 1.8, chose the widest and longest stitch on the serger and then sewed it up with a stretch needle, long stretch point with the double feed foot very close to the serged seam for security. The contrary, sewing than stitching as one would normally do, stretches the fabric. You can kind of steam it but not press it. Now I’m not really sure about these really heavy ties and will look for an alternative when I go shopping with @rizketchup this afternoon. @dittofabrics have you tried sewing it up? Do you have more tips? 🇨🇦 J’avance sur mon petit chaperon rouge en prenant bien soin de ne pas étirer mon tissu. J’ai mis le différentiel de la surjeteuse à 1.8, grand points, grande largeur. Je surjette puis je couds près du surjet pour plus de sécurité. Le contraire, coudre puis surjeter comme d’hab, étire le tissu. On peut le passer à la vapeur, mais pas le presser. Cette aprem, je sors avec @rizketchup et je vais essayer de trouver une alternative à ces gros liens disgracieux. 🧵🧶

So when my last coat was lost to moths I decided I would make my next one..and I've finally got around to taking some photos of the end result! (I'm working on being less awks in photos I promise!) I feel somewhere between a very pink hobbit and like I'm wearing my graduation gown and I'm not particularly mad about it 🤷‍♀️ - This was such a great pattern with a tie at the neck and a huge hood (I've wanted a tie neck coat since a girl in my freshers year of uni had one in green from topshop), nice and straight forward to follow. Normally I have to FBA absolutely everything but this had soo much ease I didn't bother! I ummed and erred for ages about what colour and fabric I wanted to use and eventually settled on this @ladymcelroyfabrics wool blend which is absolutely gorgeous and just what I was looking for! Remember that London Fog jacket that we allllllllll had as little girls?! This fabric and pattern gave me that vibe! I made a quick run to Joann Fabrics and randomly found this plaid polka dot fabric on clearance. [#v9340] My cheater sweater coat/red riding hood is coming along. During my 1/2 hour of personal sewing time today, I unravelled a remnant, pressed the fiber to do some necessary hand sewing. If lucky, I’ll have enough to whip up a mini sweater! I owe @ojolly a big up. Her blog is the bible on sewing heavy knits. 🇨🇦 Mon chaperon rouge avance. Aujourd’hui, j’ai utilisé ma demie-heure de couture perso pour détricoter et presser un peu de fil pour faire des couture à la main. Je pense que j’en ai fait assez pour faire un mini pull aussi. Happy Sewing Sunday! This is my second version of #v9340, a vintage pattern I got in the “free” pile at my sewing class. What a find! I have worn my first version I made out of silk charmeuse several times now, and decided I needed a second. When this stunning linen jacquard arrived from @lefoffefabrics I knew I had to make another! I need to go on for a minute about this fabric. It is linen and when one thinks of linen one thinks of the dreaded wrinkles. Well this fabric must be MAGIC since I wore it to school all day on Monday this week and sat in it, drove in it etc. I took these pictures yesterday without having ironed it after the first wear and it still looks like this!!! Wow!!! For this version I used the shorter length noted in the pattern and then shortened that another 5 inches or so to land right at the knee. I also reworked the pockets to make them deeper and wider since no reasonably sized hand could fit in the original pattern! I used flat fell seams throughout except on the outside of the pockets since I couldn’t figure out how to make flat fell work there. I just serged those instead. As you can see, the inside is just as pretty as the outside! I love the ability to do that with hand sewn garments. This makes me super happy and worth the extra effort. It’s really nice to be indulging in some fun summer sewing finally! More soon! @kbb_couture Ps. Inspiriert von der aktuellen @hyke_official Kollektion! Diesen Mantel links im Bild finde ich so klasse, dass ich nach einem ähnlichen SM suchte...und bei Vogue Patterns fündig wurde. Und zwar habe ich den Very Easy Vogue Schnitt #v9340 genäht. In der langen Variante (es gibt drei Längen) und ohne das Bindeband, denn damit sieht es ein wenig nach dem Cape der guten Fee aus Cinderella aus, finde ich. Der Schnitt ist wirklich toll und hat schöne Details: vor allem die Falten an der Schulter vorn und hinten, die Raglanärmel und der Ärmelsaum. Und jeder Schnitt, der von vornherein Druckknöpfe vorsieht, ist für mich per se schon vorn dabei 😝 Der Stoff ist eine beschichtete Baumwolle mit einer fantastischen Haptik- sowohl für den Mantel, aber erst Recht für die knuffige #puffybag nach dem Freebook von @milliblus (siehe vorletzter Post)! Why, yes, I do like coats with hoods. I found this lovely teal wool to make #voguepatterns #v9340 #vogue9340. I really don't think the pattern illustrations show it properly because it's not modern at all (in my opinion). In fact, I believe it has a distinct wizarding world vibe to it! Which is why I actually invisibly hand-stitched the entire bloody hem and facing. The pockets are lined in the same gold fabric and it has lovely balloony sleeves. Side note, my new phone has a fantastic camera but in order for the voice-activated shooting method to work, you apparently need to be right next to the phone. [Point #V9340] J’ai utilisé du gros grain comme renfort de patte de boutonnage, à l’intérieur parce qu’il n’est pas tout à fait de la même couleur et dans la capuche, qui doit garder un peu de souplesse, un ruban de viscose que j’ai surjeté, différentiel 1,8, sans le couteau d’un côté et surfilé de l’autre pour le maintenir en place. Je me demande si je ne vais pas soutenir le ourlet de la même manière pour ne pas qu’il se déforme (ce manteau pèse un âne mort!). J’ai trouvé des pression à coudre fluo dans mon stock... ça le fait ou pas? 🇨🇦 I used grosgrain inside to interface the button band (it’s just not quite the same hue) and a smaller viscose ribbon for the hood which needs some drape. I serged one side, differential feed 1,8 no knife, and overcast the other so the ribbons don’t twist. I think I should interface the hem in the same manner so it doesn’t stretch. This coat weighs a ton. @ojolly What do you think? I raided my stash and found some fluo snaps... is this working or not?

Received my fabric today from #moodfabrics and this wool cashmere blend drapes beautifully! My goodness.... i just popped it on the dress form, and already it's perfection. Bitch imma cow! Ever since hearing that song I knew I had to make something with a black and white cow print fabric... also cows are one of my favourite animals! This luscious and soft fleece jersey is from @minervadotcom I'm so happy that I just went with my gut and got this with the intention of making the easy Vogue pattern #V9340 it's kinda rare that I stick to what I wanted to make originally so this is a proud moment. Cutting this does get messy so I'd advise hoovering after every cutting session, sewing is no problem. FYI, this has pockets! I forgot to showcase them but I lined them with a black, liquid satin. [#V9340] J’ai tout bien entoilé le ourlet avec de la @vlieseline G770 qui est stretch dans tous les sens. Et, Ô miracle! comme c’est de la laine, avec un bon coup de vapeur tout a repris sa place. Je suis maintenant quitte pour un bonne soirée de couture main. 🇨🇦 I interfaced the hem with G770 three way stretch interfacing. And Ô Miracle! it’s wool and it steamed right back into place. Now I have an evening of hand sewing before me.
