Lace, gingham, and bows! 🎀 My entry into round 2 of the @patternreview #prsewingbee is submitted and live on the blog. The challenge was "sleeves," so, as you can see, I went all out. I started with #v9243 by @mccallpatterncompany and made modifications to the sleeves and back closure. This make included pattern drafting, hand stitching, thread button loops, and French seams. Just wrapped up my latest sewing project – a chic Valley slip dress in metallic steel faux leather gifted by @minervadotcom . I had only a limited amount of fabric left after the skirt project, so I ended up shortening the hem 26 cm. I also cut the front in two pieces, added top stitching to the neckline & front seam, and made the lining full length. Loving the soft, luxe feel of this fabric! 😍 Today I styled the new dress with my silver boots, extravaganza-sleeved shirt & memade pink pom pom earrings (I have made a few for sale if you are interested, though shipping from Finland is insanely expensive). Ugh, 3duds in a row. 💩💩💩 1. #v9243 in Rifle Paper/Cotton and Steel rayon. I made a muslin of this top before cutting into my stash fabric. The muslin version did NOT give me a hunchback due to zipper puckering, which this one does. 2. #s1253 in a slippery satin that appeared to be a gorgeous caramel color when on the bolt, but made me look like a robot. Armholes were much too high and cut into me. This instantly got thrown into the donation pile and I don’t even have a photo. 3. #m7726 in a loose weave linen. Oh, I so badly wanted these pants to turn out, because I had them back in the 90s. But that crotch is about 3 inches too low which, like the zipper hunchback, is also quite unflattering. Also, the zipper insertion instructions are truly some of the worst I’ve ever seen. And that waistband construction is awful. Conclusion after all of this: I’m done with Big 4 patterns. The sizing is inaccurate and they rarely give useful measurements. I mean, come on, you choose to list the back length but not the waist or hip measurements?? 😡 And the instructions are just appalling. Thank god for blogs and you tube videos! It might seem like a bargain to buy these on sale at Joann’s, but it’s a waste of time and effort. I’m going to stick to indie patterns for now. Even though they’re more expensive, at least I can actually find the right size to make and I’ll have clear instructions. Rant over.

A slightly belated Christmas present for mum. Mum picked out the fabric from @pitttrading and the @mccallpatterncompany #V9243 and I sewed it up for her. I took five inches of length out (she’s a shortie) and it fits her super well. I didn’t have enough of the edging to do the sleeves the pattern called for, but I like the ruffles just as much (if not more).
